2021 Safari Rally
The 2021 Safari Rally (also known as the Safari Rally Kenya 2021) was a motor racing event for rally cars that was held over four days between 24 and 27 June 2021. It marked the sixty-ninth running of the Safari Rally. The event was the sixth round of the 2021 World Rally Championship, World Rally Championship-2 and World Rally Championship-3. The 2021 event was based in Nairobi in the Nairobi County and was contested over eighteen special stages totalling in competitive distance. Sébastien Ogier and Julien Ingrassia won the rally. Their team, Toyota Gazoo Racing WRT, were the manufacturer's winners. There were no classified finishers in the World Rally Championship-2 category. Local hero Onkar Rai and Drew Sturrock won the World Rally Championship-3 category. At the age of ninety-one, Polish driver Sobiesław Zasada became the oldest competitor to start a World Rally Championship event. 2021 World Rally Championship
The 2021 FIA World Rally Championship was the forty-ninth season of the World Rally Championship, a rallying competition organised by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA). Teams and crews competed in twelve rallies for the List of World Rally Championship Drivers' champions, World Rally Championships for Drivers, Co-drivers and List of World Rally Championship Constructors' champions, Manufacturers. Crews were free to compete in cars complying with World Rally Car, Rally Pyramid and Group R regulations; however, only manufacturers competing with World Rally Cars Homologation (motorsport), homologated under regulations introduced in World Rally Car#2017–2021, 2017 were eligible to score points in the Manufacturers' championship. Thierry Jean Neuville ( ; born 16 June 1988) is a Belgian rally driver who is competing in the World Rally Championship for Hyundai Motorsport. During his career, he has finished as runner-up five times (2013, 2016–2019) and achieved his maiden drivers' world title in the 2024, making him the first Belgian to win the driver's championship. He helped Hyundai win their first manufacturers' title in 2019, as well as repeating the feat in 2020. His current co-driver is compatriot Martijn Wydaeghe. Born in St. Vith, Neuville started rallying in 2007. Scott Martin (born 6 November 1981) is a British rallying co-driver who competes in the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile, FIA World Rally Championship. Biography Martin began his rallying career in 2001 co-driving at a national level in the UK. With Matthew Wilson in 2004, he finished as second outright co-driver in the British Rally Championship (BRC) in the Ford Focus RS. After the 2004 season, Martin was accepted into the MSA British Rally Elite Scheme, a specialist training scheme for young British rally drivers. In 2005 he was involved in a serious accident on the opening round of the BRC, the Rally of Wales, and was airlifted to hospital. Elfyn Rhys Evans (born 28 December 1988) is a Welsh professional rallying, rally driver. Sobiesław Zasada
Sobiesław Jan Zasada (born 27 January 1930 in Dąbrowa Górnicza, Poland) is a Polish rally driver and economist. He won the European Rally Championship in 1966, 1967, 1971 and was vice-champion in 1968, 1969, and 1972. In 1967, he was chosen the Polish Sportspersonality of the Year. Career Sobieslaw Zasada first raced motorcycles, and in 1951 entered four-wheel racing. After solid racing performances, he received support from the Polish automobile club in Warsaw. Zasada won the European Rally Champion title in 1966 with Steyr-Puch 650 (the smallest vehicle to achieve such victory) and in 1967 with 4-cylinder Porsche 912. In autumn of 1967 he was victorious driving his flat-six Porsche 911 in the Gran Premio Internacional de Turismo, a 2055-mile stage race across Argentina. Special Stage (rallying)
A special stage (SS) is a section of closed road at a Race stage, stage rallying event used for timed speed tests. Racers attempt to complete the stage in the shortest time. A race on a special stage is coordinated such that each competing racer begins after a set interval, to reduce the chance of impedance by other competitors. Each special stage is usually between and in length. Some stages may be as long as in length. A Rallying, rally usually comprises approximately 15–30 special stages, over multiple days of an event. The 2021 FIA WRC3 Championship was the eighth season of WRC3, a rallying championship organised and governed by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile as the third-highest tier of international rallying. It was open to privately entered cars complying with Group Rally2 regulations. The championship began in January 2021 with the Rallye Monte-Carlo and concluded in November 2021 with Rally Monza, running in support of the 2021 World Rally Championship. Yohan Rossel won the driver's championship, while Maciek Szczepaniak took the co-driver's title. The 2020 WRC3 driver and co-driver champions Jari Huttunen and Mikko Lukka did not defend their titles in 2021 due to progression to WRC2.
