2021 Rally Portugal
The 2021 Rally de Portugal (also known as the Vodafone Rally de Portugal 2021) was a motorsport, motor racing event for rallying, rally cars that was held over four days between 20 and 23 May 2021. It marked the fifty-fourth running of the Rally de Portugal. The event was the fourth round of the 2021 World Rally Championship, 2021 World Rally Championship-2, World Rally Championship-2 and 2021 World Rally Championship-3, World Rally Championship-3, as well as the second round of the 2021 Junior World Rally Championship. The 2021 event was based in Matosinhos in the Porto District and was contested over twenty Special stage (rallying), special stages totalling in competitive distance. The 2021 FIA World Rally Championship was the forty-ninth season of the World Rally Championship, a rallying competition organised by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA). Teams and crews competed in twelve rallies for the List of World Rally Championship Drivers' champions, World Rally Championships for Drivers, Co-drivers and List of World Rally Championship Constructors' champions, Manufacturers. Crews were free to compete in cars complying with World Rally Car, Rally Pyramid and Group R regulations; however, only manufacturers competing with World Rally Cars Homologation (motorsport), homologated under regulations introduced in World Rally Car#2017–2021, 2017 were eligible to score points in the Manufacturers' championship. Mārtiņš Sesks
Mārtiņš Nikijs Sesks (born 18 September 1999) is a Latvian rally driver who currently competes in the World Rally Championship for M-Sport Ford WRT on a part-time schedule. Rally career Sesks started rallying in 2014 in a Honda Civic Type R. He entered the Junior World Rally Championship in , and finished as runner-up in . After winning his first European Rally Championship event in 2022, the Latvian entered the series full-time in 2023. He went on to finish second to Hayden Paddon in the final standing, having won the events in Poland and Latvia. Sesks made his Rally1 debut in 2024, competing at the Rally Poland with M-Sport Ford WRT, where a strong opening run was praised by team principal Richard Millener. Special Stage (rallying)
A special stage (SS) is a section of closed road at a Race stage, stage rallying event used for timed speed tests. Racers attempt to complete the stage in the shortest time. A race on a special stage is coordinated such that each competing racer begins after a set interval, to reduce the chance of impedance by other competitors. Each special stage is usually between and in length. Some stages may be as long as in length. A Rallying, rally usually comprises approximately 15–30 special stages, over multiple days of an event. 2021 Junior World Rally Championship
The 2021 FIA Junior WRC Championship was the ninth season of Junior WRC, a rallying championship governed by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile, running in support of the World Rally Championship. The championship was open to drivers under the age of thirty—although no such restriction existed for co-drivers—competing in identical one-litre Ford Fiesta R2s built and maintained by M-Sport. The championship began in April 2021 at the Croatia Rally. Tom Kristensson and Joakim Sjöberg were the defending drivers' and co-drivers' champions while Sweden was the defending Nations' Trophy winner. Sami Pajari and Marko Salminen became the first Finnish crew to win the championship. Finland took the Nations' Trophy victory. The 2021 FIA WRC3 Championship was the eighth season of WRC3, a rallying championship organised and governed by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile as the third-highest tier of international rallying. It was open to privately entered cars complying with Group Rally2 regulations. The championship began in January 2021 with the Rallye Monte-Carlo and concluded in November 2021 with Rally Monza, running in support of the 2021 World Rally Championship. Yohan Rossel won the driver's championship, while Maciek Szczepaniak took the co-driver's title. The 2020 WRC3 driver and co-driver champions Jari Huttunen and Mikko Lukka did not defend their titles in 2021 due to progression to WRC2. The category was open to cars entered by teams and complying with Rally2 regulations. The championship began in January 2021 with the Rallye Monte-Carlo and concluded in November 2021 with Rally Monza, and ran in support of the 2021 World Rally Championship. Martin Järveoja (; born 18 August 1987) is an Estonian rally co-driver. He is currently teamed with Ott Tänak and is competing for Hyundai Motorsport in the World Rally Championship. Rally career He is the son of Estonian politician Toomas Järveoja, and originally a Judo competitor (he was five-time champion in Estonia). Järveoja began his rally career in 2006, co-driving for several drivers, including his cousin Ken Järveoja and uncle Tarmo Järveoja, competing in the regional and national championships.
