2021 Latvian Football Cup
The 2021 Latvian Football Cup was a single elimination association football tournament which began on 27 June 2021. FK RFS, RFS won the cup final 1–0 over FK Liepāja, Liepāja and earned a place in the first qualifying round of the 2022–23 UEFA Europa Conference League. FK Liepāja, Liepāja were the defending champions. Preliminary round Two preliminary round matches were played on 27 June 2021. First round Fourteen first round matches were played on 3–4 July 2021. Second round Sixteen second round matches were played on 17–18 July 2021. Third round Eight third round matches were played on 31 July and 1 August 2021. Fourth round Seven fourth round matches were played on 7–9 August 2021. Quarter–finals The quarter–finals were played on 21–22 August 2021. 2020 Latvian Football Cup
The 2020 Latvian Football Cup was the 26th edition of the football tournament. The competition began on 23 July 2020 and ended on 8 November 2020. RFS were the defending champions, having won the previous year's final over Jelgava 3–2 after extra time. The cup winners qualified for the 2021–22 UEFA Europa League 1st qualifying round. Format 47 teams took part in the competition. Each round was played over single leg and matches took place for 90 minutes, with two halves of 45 minutes. If tied after regular time, 30 minutes of extra time were played, consisting of two periods of 15 minutes. If the score was still leveled after this, the match was decided by a penalty shoot-out in order to decide the winner. No seeding was applied at any round. 2021 Latvian Higher League
The 2021 Latvian Higher League , known as the Optibet Virslīga for sponsorship reasons, is the 30th season of top-tier football in Latvia. The season began on 13 March 2021 and ended 6 November 2021. RFS are the league champions and earned a place in the 2022–23 UEFA Champions League while the second, third and fourth-placed clubs earned a place in the 2022–23 UEFA Europa Conference League. Riga were the defending champions after winning the league for a third consecutive season. Teams The league consists of 8 clubs from the previous season, joined by Noah Jūrmala as champions of the 2020 Latvian First League. Tukums (relegated after one year in the top flight) were relegated after finishing last in the previous season and declined to apply for a license. FK Rīgas Futbola Skola
FK RFS is a professional Latvian football club based in Riga, Latvia. It competes in the Virslīga, the top flight of Latvian football. History RFS were promoted to the Virsliga for 2016 when Skonto FC failed to obtain a license. In 2018, RFS qualified for the UEFA Europa League qualifiers for the first time. In 2019, the club achieved its first-ever honour, the Latvian Cup. It wasn't until 2021–22 that RFS won a European two-legged tie, beating Faroese club KÍ Klaksvík. They went on to beat Hungarian side Puskás Akadémia FC before losing to Belgian club Gent. Later that year, RFS won their first Virsliga and would thus compete in the 2022–23 UEFA Champions League qualifying rounds. Valmiera Football Club or shortly Valmiera FC is a Latvian football club, playing in the Virslīga, the highest division of Latvian football. The club is based in the city of Valmiera. By winning the 2017 Latvian First League, the team was promoted to the 2018 Virslīga after a 14-year absence, and won their first title in 2022 Virslīga. History A predecessor of the club and the main team of the city of Valmiera from 1978 to 1993 was FK Gauja Valmiera, which won the final Football Championship of the Latvian SSR in 1990 and continued in the top flight after the restoration of the independence of Latvia. Riga FC Riga Football Club, commonly referred to as Riga FC, is a Latvian football club, founded in 2014. The club is based at the Skonto Stadium in Riga. Since 2016 the club has been playing in the Virslīga. History The club was officially registered in April 2014. The team was established before the 2015 season after a merger of two Riga based teams – ''FC Caramba'' and ''Dinamo Rīga''.
