The 2021 Kansas City NWSL season was the team's first season as a professional women's soccer team. Kansas City NWSL plays in the National Women's Soccer League, the top tier of women's soccer in the United States. The team rebranded at halftime of its final match to the Kansas City Current. The Kansas City Chiefs are a professional American football team based in Kansas City, Missouri. Lucas Rodríguez (born February 8, 1986 in Buenos Aires) is an Argentine former professional footballer who is currently an assistant coach with the Kansas City Current in the National Women's Soccer League. Career College and amateur Rodríguez spent his early childhood up in his native Argentina, before coming to the United States when he was 14 years old, settling in Lenexa, Kansas and played in this time for the KC Pace soccer club. Natalia Astráin Massa (born January 5, 1976, in Pamplona, Spain) is a former soccer player and soccer coach from Navarre in the Basque region of Spain. She was the first female coach in Spain to obtain the UEFA Pro Licence, which she did in 1999. She has a degree in Art History and two Masters in Psychology and sports coaching. The Kansas City Monarchs were the longest-running franchise in the history of baseball's Negro leagues. Operating in Kansas City, Missouri, and owned by J. L. Wilkinson, they were charter members of the Negro National League from 1920 to 1930. J. L. Wilkinson was the first Caucasian owner at the time of the establishment of the team.
