2021 Jakarta Film Week
The inaugural edition of Jakarta Film Week was held on 18 to 21 November 2021 by the Tourism and Creative Economy Department of Jakarta as an effort to support the revival of film industry post the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia. The festival was held in-person and virtual around Central Jakarta at the CGV Grand Indonesia, Metropole XXI, and Ashley Hotel, also through streaming service Vidio. Actress Shenina Cinnamon was appointed as the festival ambassador. The most prestigious award of the festival, Global Feature Award, was presented to French drama film ''Petite Maman'', directed by Céline Sciamma. ''Whether the Weather is Fine'' or ''Kun Maupay Man It Panahon'' is a 2021 drama film directed and co-written by Carlo Francisco Manatad in his feature directorial debut. The film is a disaster movie which combines satirical and surreal elements. Starring Daniel Padilla, Rans Rifol, and Charo Santos-Concio, the film is set against the backdrop of the devastation caused by the 2013 Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines. The film is a joint production by Black Sheep Productions, Globe Studios, and Dreamscape Entertainment. The film had its world premiere on August 9, 2021, at the 74th Locarno Film Festival. Garin Nugroho
Garin Nugroho Riyanto (born 6 June 1961) is an Indonesian film director. Biography Nugroho was born in Yogyakarta, Special Region of Yogyakarta on 6 June 1961. He was the fourth child of postal workers Soetjipto Amin and Mariah, who eventually had seven children. As a child, he attended an Islamic elementary school, later attending Catholic secondary schools. His father owned a lending library and enjoyed writing, leading Nugroho to start writing from a young age; he later quit writing because he felt his father to be too critical. He also enjoyed exploring, and would bathe in the Code River fed by the cold lahar runoffs from Mount Merapi; he notes that the sulfur, which was brought to the river by the lava, was good for his skin. The film follows the journey of a young director who attempts to complete a feature film in Myanmar, and satirically depicts systemic issues in the country, including corruption and government censorship, and the state of the Burmese film industry. In the wake of the 2021 Myanmar coup d'état, the film's producer and lead writer, Ma Aeint, was detained by the military junta in June 2021, after becoming a target of the junta for her involvement in this film. Atsushi Sakahara
is a film director, writer, and producer. He now teaches at Kyoto Seika University and graduate program at Osaka City University. He is a former advertising executive at Dentsu inc who survived the 1995 sarin gas attacks in Tokyo, which led to his later film work. He produced the 2001 Short Film Palme d'Or winning ''Bean Cake'', directed by David Greenspan. He directed a short film, ''Don't Call Me Father''. in 2012. One of producers for the film was Paul Milgrom, who won Nobel Prize in Economics in 2020. The film follows the director, Atsushi Sakahara, a victim of the 1995 Tokyo Subway Sarin Gas Attack, and Araki Hiroshi, a current executive member of the doomsday cult Aleph (previously Aum Shinrikyo) behind the attack, as they travel to their hometowns in the Kyoto prefecture. It premiered at the Sheffield Doc Fest as part of its Ghosts and Apparitions strand.
