Ayra Starr (EP)
''Ayra Starr'' is the eponymous debut extended play by Nigerian singer-songwriter Ayra Starr. It was released on 22 January 2021 through Mavin Records. After covering several songs by popular artists on Instagram, Ayra Starr posted her first original song on her page in December 2019. This brought her to the attention of record executive Don Jazzy. She signed her first recording contract with Mavin Records, Jazzy's record label and began working on the EP in January 2020. Ayra Starr collaborated with producers Louddaaa, Dayogrey and Don Jazzy, on the record, and co-wrote four of its songs with her brother. Musically, the EP combines elements of R&B and neo-soul with Afropop percussive rhythms. Lyrically, it touches on themes relating to teenage angst, romance and coming-of-age experiences. Matador Records is an independent record label, with a roster of mainly indie rock, but also punk rock, experimental rock, alternative rock, and electronic acts. History Matador was created in 1989 by Chris Lombardi in his New York City apartment. Lombardi had brought the Austrian duo H.P. Zinker into Wharton Tiers’ Fun City studio to record Matador's first release, "...and there was light". Lombardi continued to add artists to the label's roster, with bands like the Dustdevils, Railroad Jerk and Superchunk, before being joined by former Homestead Records manager Gerard Cosloy in 1990. Mdou Moctar
Mahamadou Souleymane (born c. 16 August 1984 or 1986), known professionally as Mdou Moctar (also M.dou Mouktar), is a Tuareg songwriter and musician based in Agadez, Niger, who performs modern rock music inspired by Tuareg guitar music. His music first gained attention through a trading network of mobile phones and memory cards in West Africa. He sings in the Tamasheq language. Moctar's fourth album, ''Ilana: The Creator'', released in 2019, was the first to feature a full band. He plays guitar in the takamba and assouf styles. Osibisa
Osibisa are a Ghanaian-British Afro-Rock band founded in London in the late 1960s by four expatriate West African and three London based Caribbean musicians. Osibisa were the most successful and longest lived of the African-heritage bands in London, alongside such contemporaries as Assagai, Chris McGregor's Brotherhood of Breath, Demon Fuzz, Black Velvet and Noir, and were largely responsible for the establishment of world music and Afro-Rock as a marketable genre. Tobechukwu Victor Okolie (born 5 December 1989), known as Peruzzi, is a Nigerian singer. He began recording music after working with Rodney malice at the age of seven. Though his signing to Davido's DMW was being disputed at some point, Peruzzi is a front member of the 30 Billion Gang also known as 30BG, a record label consisting mostly of Davido's close associates such as Blacktycoon, Tunegee, B-Red etc. He was featured on 2Baba's single 'Amaka'. Career Peruzzi began his musical career with Golden Boy Records in 2016, before getting signed to Davido Music World in 2018. Partisan Records is an independent record label with offices in London and Los Angeles, as well as in New York City, where the company was co-founded in 2007 by Tim Putnam and Ian Wheeler. The label, initially run out of Putnam’s South Brooklyn apartment, relocated in 2009 to their flagship office in Williamsburg where they still reside. Holy Sons (‘Decline Of The West’) was the first release on the label, and early success followed shortly thereafter with the release of Deer Tick (‘War Elephant’).
