2021 Central Pulse Season
The 2021 Central Pulse season saw the Central Pulse netball team compete in the 2021 ANZ Premiership. The 2021 season saw Gail Parata replace Yvette McCausland-Durie as Pulse's head coach. However, Parata would be replaced by a returning McCausland-Durie after just one season. The team was captained by Claire Kersten. Pulse finished the regular season in 5th place and did not qualify for the Final Series. Players Player movements 2021 roster ;Notes * Ameliaranne Ekenasio was initially named as captain. However she subsequently missed the entire season. She was rested for the Otaki tournament, then went on medical leave due to fatigue and then became pregnant. Gail Parata
Gail Parata (born 26 November 1967) is a New Zealand netball coach and former player. She is currently a National netball selector for Netball NZ and the Technical Advisor to the Tifa Moana Samoan national netball team. She coached the Scotland national netball team from 2013 to 2019 where they qualified for two world cups and two Commonwealth Games. Under her leadership they achieved their highest world ranking of 7th position. Parata was appointed head coach of the Central Pulse in the ANZ Premiership in September 2020 and had a disappointing season losing key players such as Burger, Metuarau, Temu to other franchaises and Ekenasio to pregnancy. In 2020, Parata joined the NZ Silver Ferns coaching team as the Assistant to Dame Noeline Taurua for the Northern series in the United Kingdom. Northern Stars
Northern Stars are a New Zealand netball team based in South Auckland. Since 2017 they have competed in the ANZ Premiership. The team was named after the Matariki star cluster which is also featured on the team's logo. They were grand finalists in 2019 and 2021. Caitlin Bassett
Caitlin Bassett (born 23 May 1988) is a former Australian netballer, who played for Giants Netball and the Australia national netball team. Between 2017 and 2021 Bassett captained Australia in international netball tests. Career Caitlin played in the West Australian Netball League with Demons. Bassett played West Coast Fever from 2005 to 2016, before joining expansion side Sunshine Coast Lightning at the start of the 2017 season in the Suncorp Super Netball league. Bassett previously played for the Perth Orioles in the Commonwealth Bank Trophy from 2005 to 2007. In 2008, she played for one half of a game as a member of the Australian Diamonds team. In 2011 Bassett was part of the 2011 World Championship winning Australian Diamonds Team, featuring in the final against New Zealand. Fly Palmy Arena
Central Energy Trust Arena is the current name of the 180,000 square metre publicly owned recreational complex just west of the Palmerston North city centre in the Manawatū-Whanganui region of New Zealand. It has three linked indoor stadiums, with movable tiered seating. Outdoor facilities include football fields and a speedway track with grandstand. In June 2015, FMG insurance chose not to renew the sponsorship deal for the main Stadium name. Monica Falkner
Monica Falkner (born 1996) is a netball player from New Zealand. As of the end of 2021, she had represented the New Zealand national netball team on three occasions. Early life Monica Falkner was born on 8 April 1996 in Ōpōtiki in the eastern Bay of Plenty in the North Island of New Zealand. Falkner is descended from the Māori people of Tūhoe and Whakatohea. She was brought up by her father on a farm in the Waimana valley of Whakatāne District in the Bay of Plenty region and attended Trident High School in Whakatāne. She started to play netball at the age of eight. Netball career Falkner joined the Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic for the 2017 season, playing in the Goal shooter (GS) and Goal attack (GA) positions. Maia Wilson
Maia Wilson (born 21 September 1997) is a New Zealand netball international. She was a member of the New Zealand teams that won the 2017 Netball World Youth Cup and the 2021 Constellation Cup. She also represented New Zealand at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. Wilson made her senior league debut with Central Pulse during the 2016 ANZ Championship season. Since 2017, she has played for Northern Stars in the ANZ Premiership. In both 2018 and 2019, she was the ANZ Premiership top goal scorer. Northern Mystics
Northern Mystics are a New Zealand netball team based in Auckland. Between 2008 and 2016, they played in the ANZ Championship. Since 2017 they have represented Netball Northern in the ANZ Premiership. Netball Northern is the governing body that represents the Auckland and Northland Regions. The ANZ Premiership is the top level netball league featuring teams from New Zealand. In 2017 it replaced the ANZ Championship, which also included teams from Australia, as the top level netball league in New Zealand. It is organised by Netball New Zealand. Its main sponsor is ANZ. Brendon Egan
Brendon James Egan (born 17 December 1984, in Christchurch, New Zealand) is a New Zealand sports writer for The Press newspaper in Christchurch. His main rounds are netball, basketball, and cricket. At the start of 2013, Egan travelled to the United States as a scholarship recipient of the Bell Journalism Prize. He was also named as one of two winners of the Sir John Wells Sports Journalism Scholarship, which was announced at the 2012 Sir Terry McLean sports journalism awards. Kelly Jury
Kelly Jury (born 22 October 1996) is a New Zealand netball international. She represented New Zealand at the 2018 and 2022 Commonwealth Games. During the ANZ Championship era Jury played for Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic. Since 2020, she has played for Central Pulse in the ANZ Premiership. Jury was a prominent member of the Pulse teams that won the 2020 and 2022 ANZ Premierships. Alongside Tiana Metuarau, she was co-captain of the 2022 Pulse team.
