2020 WTA Elite Trophy
The 2020 WTA Elite Trophy was a women's tennis tournament to be played at the Hengqin International Tennis Center in Zhuhai, China. It was supposed to be the sixth edition of the singles event and doubles competition with 12 singles players and six doubles teams contesting the event. However, on 23rd July, 2020, the tournament was cancelled due to the decision by China's General Administration of Sport that China would not host any international sporting events in 2020 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Zhuhai (, ; Yale: ''Jyūhói''), also known as Chuhai is a prefecture-level city located on the west bank of Pearl River estuary on the central coast of southern Guangdong province, People's Republic of China, on the southeastern edge of Pearl River Delta. Hengqin International Tennis Center ( zh, 横琴国际网球中心) is a tennis stadium complex in Hengqin, Zhuhai, Guangdong Province, China. It is operated by Huafa Sports, part of the Zhuhai Huafa Group. It currently hosts three international competitions: the WTA Elite Trophy, the Zhuhai Open and the Asia-Pacific Wildcard Playoff for the Australian Open. Aryna Siarhiejeŭna Sabalenka ( be, Арына Сяргееўна Сабаленка; russian: Арина Сергеевна Соболенко, ''Arina Sergeyevna Sobolenko'', born 5 May 1998) is a Belarusian professional tennis player. Lyudmyla Viktorivna Kichenok ( uk, Людмила Вікторівна Кіченок; born 20 July 1992) is a Ukrainian professional tennis player. On 21 July 2014, Lyudmyla reached her career-high singles ranking of world No. 156. On 12 September 2022, she peaked at No. 9 in the doubles rankings. WTA Elite Trophy
The WTA Elite Trophy is the second-tier year-end professional women's tennis tournament on the WTA Tour. It is the successor event of the different format WTA Tournament of Champions, which took place from 2009–14. The Elite Trophy takes place at the end of each season, in two disciplines: singles and doubles. The singles event features 12 players (11 of them ranked from 9th to 19th on the final table of the WTA ranking, and one wildcard). The players are split into four groups of three, with the group winners advancing to the single elimination semifinals. The doubles championships features six teams in two groups with the group winners contesting the final. 2020 WTA Finals
The 2020 WTA Finals, also known by its sponsored name Shiseido WTA Finals Shenzhen, was a women's tennis tournament that was scheduled to be held in Shenzhen, China. It would have been the 50th edition of the singles event and the 45th edition of the doubles competition, contested by eight singles players and eight doubles teams. However, the tournament was cancelled by the WTA, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, on 24 July 2020. The 2020 ATP Finals (also known as the 2020 Nitto ATP Finals for sponsorship reasons) was a men's tennis tournament played at the O2 Arena in London, United Kingdom, from 15 to 22 November 2020.
