2020 Speedway Grand Prix
The 2020 Speedway Grand Prix season was the 26th season of the Speedway Grand Prix era, and decided the 75th FIM Speedway World Championship. It was the 20th series under the promotion of Benfield Sports International, an IMG company A new points system was introduced with overall positions deciding the number of championship points a rider scored from a Grand Prix (GP), and points scored in each individual heat used to determine a rider's progress in a GP. The series was dominated by Polish venues with six of the eight races held in Poland. Bartosz Zmarzlik was the defending champion, having won the 2019 Speedway Grand Prix series, and he successfully retained his title in 2020 by winning four of the eight rounds. Former three-time champion Tai Woffinden finished second after winning a run-off with Fredrik Lindgren. Bartosz Zmarzlik
Bartosz Zmarzlik (Polish: ; born 12 April 1995) is a Polish motorcycle speedway rider, a five-time World Champion (2019, 2020, 2022, 2023 and 2024), three-time World Team Champion (2016, 2017, 2023), World Junior Champion (2015) and European Junior Champion (2012). He is the third Polish rider in history, after Jerzy Szczakiel and Tomasz Gollob, to win an individual World Championship title. He was awarded the Order of Polonia Restituta, V class in 2019 and won the Polish Sports Personality of the Year title in 2020 becoming the second speedway rider to accomplish this feat. Niels-Kristian Iversen
Niels Kristian Trochmann Iversen (, born 20 June 1982 in Esbjerg, Denmark) is an international motorcycle speedway rider. He is a seven times national champion of Denmark and was part of the Denmark speedway team, Danish teams that won the Speedway World Cup in 2006, 2008, 2012 and 2014. Early life Niels-Kristian Trochmann was born 20 June 1982 in Esbjerg, Denmark to Ann Marie and Flemming Iversen. Growing up with older brother Soren, Iversen decided he want to be a speedway rider. His local town Esbjerg had a track where Iversen began to learn his desired trade. Quickly moving up the ranks in Denmark, his first title came in 1994 at the 50cc Danish Individual Championship. Pontus Aspgren (born 15 March 1991) is a Swedish motorcycle speedway rider. Anders Thomsen (born 1 January 1994) is an international speedway rider from Denmark and a triple Danish champion. Speedway career Thomsen became champion of Denmark, winning the Danish Championship in 2020. He rode in the second tier of British Speedway from 2013–2016, riding for Glasgow Tigers and Peterborough Panthers. Martin Smolinski (born 6 December 1984) is a German motorcycle speedway rider. He is three-times world longtrack champion and eight times champion of Germany. Personal life Smolinski was born on 6 December 1984 in Munich, West Germany. He is of Polish descent through his paternal grandfather from Katowice. Career Smolinksi began riding in his natiove Germany for MSC Olching. He became the German junior champion in 2003 and after reaching the final 2003 Speedway Under-21 World Championship he signed for Coventry Bees in England. Gregory Alan Hancock (born June 3, 1970, in Whittier, California) is a former professional motorcycle speedway rider from the United States. As of 2023, he was one of only six riders to have won the individual World Championship four or more times.
