2020 Saint Kitts And Nevis General Election
General elections were held in Saint Kitts and Nevis on Friday 5 June 2020. The ruling coalition, Team Unity consisting of PAM, CCM and PLP, won a landslide victory with nine out of the eleven directly elected deputies, and netting a combined 54.85% of the vote. However, similar to the prior elections in 2015, the individual party that won the most votes (PAM) did not win the most seats. Electoral system Eleven of the fifteen seats in the National Assembly are elected, with three other members appointed by the Governor-General at some point after the elections and one seat held by the Attorney-General. National Assembly (Saint Kitts And Nevis)
The National Assembly and the King of Saint Christopher and Nevis jointly make up the legislature of Saint Kitts and Nevis. Composition of the National Assembly The assembly has 14 or 15 members (depending upon circumstances), 11 of whom are elected for a five-year term in single-seat constituencies and are known as Representatives. The remaining four are called Senators; three are appointed by the governor-general and the fourth is the attorney-general (i.e. an ''ex officio'' member). The 1983 constitution mandates at least three senators, or four if the attorney-general is not one of these three appointed senators. The number can be increased by the parliament as long as it doesn't exceed two thirds of the number of representatives. Alexis Jeffers
Alexis Zook Jeffers (born 25 November 1968) is a Saint Kitts and Nevis politician with the Concerned Citizens' Movement. He represents the Saint James constituency in the Nevis Island Assembly, and has also stood as a candidate for election to the National Assembly. Career Before entering politics, Jeffers worked in a car rental company and founded a swimming pool cleaning company. In late 2009, Jeffers announced that he would stand for election to represent Nevis #11 District in the January 2010 general election. At the time, he held dual citizenship of Saint Kitts and Nevis and the United States. Eugene Hamilton (Saint Kitts And Nevis)
Eugene Green Hamilton (June 27, 1910 – June 1, 2005) was a pioneering American OB/GYN obstetrician, writer, and medical researcher. He did some of the key writing in the effort to develop a vaccine which fought against Rh disease, a condition which would cause pregnant women's immune system to attack the fetus she is carrying as not being identical to the mother. Hamilton did some of the earliest and best writing about the search for the vaccine, long before diagnostic techniques such as ultrasound had been developed. Biography Hamilton was born on June 27, 1910, in White Hall, Illinois. His father was Ray Hamilton, an Illinois physician. In the early 1940s, he married Mary Jo Hickey of Minnesota. Lindsay Fitz-Patrick Grant (born 1 November 1964) is a Saint Kitts and Nevis politician and lawyer. He served as Leader of the People's Action Movement until his resignation in July 2012. In politics In the 2004 elections, Grant ran as a candidate for the National Assembly of Saint Kitts and Nevis in Constituency #4, where he faced off against Rupert Hubert of the Saint Kitts and Nevis Labour Party, and lost to him by 51 votes amidst allegations of irregularities on the voter rolls. In the 2010 elections, Grant faced off against Glenn Phillip in the same constituency, and again lost by 29 votes. The Nevis Reformation Party is a Nevis-based political party in Saint Kitts and Nevis. The party currently holds none of the eleven seats in the National Assembly. The Concerned Citizens' Movement (CCM) is a Nevis-based political party in Saint Kitts and Nevis. Led by Mark Brantley, it is currently the largest party in Nevis, holding all three seats Nevisian seats in the National Assembly and three out of five seats in the Nevis Island Assembly.
