2020 Polish LGBT Protests
Rainbow Night () occurred on 7 August 2020, when a protest against the arrest of LGBTQ activist Małgorzata "Margot" Szutowicz led to a confrontation with police in central Warsaw, Poland, which resulted in the arrest of 47 others, some of whom were protesting, and others who were bystanders. The incident was dubbed "Polish Stonewall" by some outlets, in an analogy to the 1969 Stonewall riots. Declarations of LGBT-free zone, LGBT-free zones in 2019 and 2020 and the 2020 Polish presidential election – which saw President Andrzej Duda repeatedly stress his opposition to LGBTQ rights by country or territory, LGBT rights – led to protests from LGBT rights activists, who adopted direct action tactics. LGBTQ Rights In Poland
LGBTQ, Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) people in Poland face legal challenges not experienced by non-LGBTQ residents. According to ILGA-Europe's 2025 report, the status of LGBTQ rights in Poland is among the worst of the European Union countries. Both male and female same-sex sexual activity were decriminalized in 1932, when the country introduced an equal age of consent for homosexuals and heterosexuals, which was set at 15. Poland provides LGBTQ people with the same rights as heterosexuals in certain areas: gay and bisexual men are allowed to donate blood, gays and bisexuals are allowed to serve openly in the Polish Armed Forces, and transgender people are allowed to change their legal gender following certain requirements, which include undergoing Transgender hormone therapy, hormone replacement therapy. Amnesty International (also referred to as Amnesty or AI) is an international non-governmental organization focused on human rights, with its headquarters in the United Kingdom. Kaja Godek
Kaja Godek (born 2 May 1982) is a Polish ultra-conservative activist and leader of the foundation ("life and family"). She proposed a law to ban the abortion of fetuses with birth defects or high probability thereof () in 2013 and a law to ban LGBT marches () in 2021. The anti-abortion proposal did not pass the first parliamentary reading while the anti-LGBT proposal did and is to be worked on by parliamentary committees. Presenting her anti-LGBT project in the lower house of Poland's parliament (the Sejm), Godek claimed that LGBT activists pay children to attend their parades. In 2016, she registered the foundation. YouTube blocked the account of said foundation in 2019 for inciting hate. Krzysztof Bosak (, born 13 June 1982) is a far-right Polish politician. He serves as the Deputy Marshal of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland. The All-Polish Youth () refers to two inter-linked Polish far-right ultranationalist youth organizations, with a Catholic-nationalist philosophy. Mariusz Kamiński (born 25 September 1965) is a Polish politician who served as the head of the Central Anticorruption Bureau (CBA) from August 2006 to October 2009.
