2020 Football Federation Tasmania Season
The 2020 Football Tasmania season is the seventh season of soccer under the restructured format in Tasmania. The men's competitions consisted of three major divisions across the State. All NPL and grassroots competitions were suspended for one month due to the impacts from the COVID-19 pandemic in Australia, effective 18 March to 14 April, and further extended. The NPL and other senior competitions commenced on 18 July. Football Tasmania
Football Tasmania (FT) is the governing body for soccer in the Australian state of Tasmania. The federation oversees competitions across Tasmania, Tasmanian representative teams, and development of the sport in the state. The federation was known as the Tasmanian Soccer Association until 1996, when it was renamed to Soccer Tasmania. In line with national changes in March 2006, it became Football Federation Tasmania. In February 2019, the organisation became simply Football Tasmania. Football Tasmania sanctions all competitive football matches in Tasmania, either directly in the case of its own leagues, or indirectly, as is the case with local regional junior associations. South Hobart FC
South Hobart Football Club is an Australian soccer club based in Hobart, Tasmania. Founded in 1910, the club currently competes in the NPL Tasmania. South Hobart plays home games at South Hobart Ground and also fields teams in all junior divisions, as well as women's teams. South Hobart has a continuing reputation for identifying quality youth players and involving them in the first team. Former Newcastle Jets forward Andy Brennan is a feature of this youth academy. Tasmanian Association Football Cup Competitions
The Football Federation of Tasmania organises several annual Tasmanian association football (soccer) cups and tournaments alongside the regular league competitions that they also run. The first cup competition in Tasmania was the Falkinder Cup, which began in 1913. For nearly 60 years it was the state's premier football cup tournament, but was eclipsed by the Statewide Cup, and the pre-season Summer Cup. Various Cups and trophies have come and gone, and currently the main non-league tournaments in Tasmania are the Statewide Cup (currently known as the Milan Lakoseljac Cup), and the three pre-season tournaments, the Summer Cup (south), the North West Summer Cup (North West), and the Steve Hudson Cup. University Of Tasmania SC
University Soccer Club is a soccer club which represents the University of Tasmania in the Tasmanian Southern Championship which fields both men's and women's teams. History The university first competed in the KO Cup in 1957, although it is believed football was played here prior to this time. They did well in their inaugural year, although drawing the KO Cup final 1–1 against South Hobart, they won on the toss of a coin. They won again after a 1–1 draw the following year, this time against ANM and by right of the most corners in extra-time. 1960 saw them Division 1 champions, and promoted into the Southern Premier League for the first time, where they finished 5th in their first season. Taroona FC
Taroona Football Club is a soccer club which represents Taroona in the Tasmanian Southern Championship. History The first club in Taroona was Taroona Ajax, which was formed in 1972. Taroon Ajax won the Division 1 league in 1973, gaining promotion to the Premier League for 1974. They were relegated in 1974 and the club disbanded in 1976. Afterwards, a fresh club was started for juniors called the Taroona Junior Club. In 1978, they merged with the St. Mirren Soccer Club from Lindisfarne to form the Taroona St. Mirren Soccer Club. In 1985, after the Tasmanian Soccer Association asked clubs to have one name only, the name was changed to Taroona Football Club. South East United FC is an Australian football club based in Sorell, Tasmania that plays in the third tier Southern Championship. New Town Eagles SC
New Town Eagles Soccer Club is a football (soccer) club which represents New Town in the Tasmanian Southern Championship. The club also fields teams in all junior divisions. New Town Eagles play their home games at Clare Street, in New Town. The club began life as White Eagle, who proudly represented the Polish migrant community in Tasmania. Many Poles came to Tasmania immediately after World War II to seek a new life and better conditions following the devastation of the war. Many Poles who came to Tasmania found good jobs on the dangerous but well paid giant dam-building schemes of the then "Hydro-Electric Commission" (now Hydro Tasmania). Metro Claremont SC
Metro FC (formerly Metro Claremont Football Club) is a football club formed in 1941 in the northern suburb of Claremont, Hobart, Tasmania. They play at North Chigwell Oval. It has a range of teams for all ages and genders playing in competitions run by the Football Federation Tasmania. Its teams range from under 7s right through to seniors. The teams' colours are yellow and blue. Metro were relegated to the Southern Division 1 competition in 2008 and have placed 2nd in all but 2 seasons. In 2010 Metro narrowly missed out on promotion to the Southern Tasmanian Premier League, that point the highest league on offer in Tasmania coming second behind Beachside with only one spot for promotion on offer. Hobart United Football Club is an association football club that is located in Hobart, Tasmania. Hobart City Football Club is an Australian semi-professional soccer club based in the suburb of Sandy Bay in Hobart, Tasmania. The club's colours are green and black. The club plays its home games at Sandown Park, known to fans as the ''Tropicana Cauldron'' or simply ''The Tropicana''. Ulverstone SC
Ulverstone Soccer Club, is a soccer club which represents Ulverstone in the Tasmanian Northern Championship. The club also fields teams in all junior divisions, as well as women's teams. Ulverstone play their home games at the Ulverstone Show grounds, in Ulverstone, Tasmania. Ulverstone's only brief period of glory came when they won back-to-back Northern Premierships in 1994, and 1995, local twins Shaun and Adam Conkie who both played with Ulverstone in this period were recruited to the Morwell Falcons in the National Soccer League in 1996. Somerset FC
Somerset Football Club, also known as the "Sharks", is a soccer club which represents Somerset in the Tasmanian Northern Championship. The club also fields teams in all junior divisions, as well as women's teams. Somerset play their home games at Somerset Recreation Ground, in Somerset, Tasmania. Somerset Football Club was formed in 1979 by a dedicated soccer player known as Nigel Brown. He wanted to create a club for the Somerset and Wynyard area. They began their life playing home games at Wynyard High School, before relocating to the Somerset Recreation Ground (Shark Park).
