2019 Úrvalsdeild
The 2019 Úrvalsdeild karla, also known as ''Pepsi Max-deild karla'' for sponsorship reasons, was the 108th season of top-flight Icelandic football. Twelve teams contested the league, including the defending champions Valur, who won their 21st league title in 2018. The season began in April 2019 and concluded on 28 September 2019. Teams The 2019 Úrvalsdeild is contested by twelve teams, ten of which played in the division the previous year and two teams promoted from 1. deild karla. The bottom two teams from the previous season, Fjölnir and Keflavík, were relegated to the 2019 1. deild karla and were replaced by ÍA and HK, champions and runners-up of the 2018 1. deild karla respectively. Úrvalsdeild Karla (football)
The Besta deild karla () is a professional association football league in Iceland and the highest level of the Icelandic football league system. The competition was founded in 1912 as the Icelandic Championship. Because of the harsh winters in Iceland, it is generally played in the spring and summer (April to September). It is governed by the Football Association of Iceland (KSÍ) and has 12 teams. By the end of the 2022–23 season, UEFA ranked the league No. 48 in Europe. From 27 April 2009 to 2022, the league had an active agreement on the league's name rights with Ölgerðin, the Icelandic franchisee for Pepsi. From the 2019 season to the end of the 2021 season, the league was popularly referred to as Pepsi Max deildin (The Pepsi Max League). Kópavogsvöllur
Kópavogsvöllur (, or more precisely 'Kópavogur Stadium') is a multi-use stadium in Kópavogur, Iceland. It is currently used mostly for football matches and is the home stadium of Breiðablik. It is also used for track and field events. The stadium holds 3,009 spectators and has 1,709 seats in two stands. The stadium was opened on 7 June 1975, when home team Breiðablik hosted Víkingur Ólafsvík in the old 2nd division. On 9 May 2008, a new stand was opened by Þorgerður Katrín Gunnarsdóttir, Iceland's Minister of Education, Science and Culture. The new stand has 1,360 seats and is roofed. Knattspyrnudeild Keflavíkur (, ) is an Icelandic football team, commonly known as Keflavík. It is a subdivision of Keflavík ÍF (Keflavík, íþrótta- og ungmennafélag), based in the town of Reykjanesbær in Iceland. They play at Nettó-völlur in Keflavík. Ungmennafélagið Fjölnir (, ), commonly known as Fjölnir, is a multi-sport club from Iceland. The club is located in Grafarvogur, Reykjavík. The club was founded in 1988 under the original name (Grafarvogur Youth Club); however, because another team already had the abbreviation UMFG, the name was changed to , commonly referred to as . A total of nine sports are practised at the club: football, basketball, handball, taekwondo, karate, tennis, swimming, athletics and gymnastics. Chess is also played at the club. Stjarnan Men's Football
Stjarnan FC () is the men's football department of the Ungmennafélagið Stjarnan multi-sport club. It is based in Garðabær, Iceland, and currently plays in the Besta deild karla, the top-tier men's football league in Iceland. History The association was founded in 1960. The men's division played in 1980 in the first Icelandic League (then Landsbankadeild) and managed the 2000 promotion again to the highest Icelandic league. In 2008 men's reached the summit and thus to play in Úrvalsdeild since 2009. The club gained worldwide fame when their elaborate goal celebrations, including highly choreographed depictions of landing a fish, diving, a human toilet, a human bicycle, and a Rambo shooting spree, were published widely across the Internet and football television shows. Garðabær () is a town and municipality in the Capital Region of Iceland. History Garðabær is a growing town in the Capital Region. It is the fifth largest municipality in Iceland with a population of 20,116 (1 January 2025). The site of Garðabær has been inhabited since Iceland was first settled in the 9th century. Landnámabók, the Book of Settlement, tells of two farms on the site of Garðabær: Vífilsstaðir and Skúlastaðir. Hafnarfjörður, officially Hafnarfjarðarkaupstaður, is a port town and municipality in Iceland, located about south of Reykjavík. The municipality consists of two non-contiguous areas in the Capital Region (Iceland), Capital Region, on the southwest coast of the country.
