2019 Venice International Film Festival
The 76th annual Venice International Film Festival was held from 28 August to 7 September 2019, at Venice Lido in Italy. Argentine filmmaker Lucrecia Martel was the jury president for the main competition. Alessandra Mastronardi hosted the opening and closing nights of the festival. The Golden Lion was awarded to '' Joker'' by Todd Phillips. The festival opened with ''The Truth'' by Hirokazu Kore-eda, and closed with '' The Burnt Orange Heresy'' by Giuseppe Capotondi. Lorenzo Mattotti
Lorenzo Mattotti (born 24 January 1954) is an Italian comics artist and illustrator. His illustrations have been published in magazines such as ''Cosmopolitan (magazine), Cosmopolitan'', ''Vogue (magazine), Vogue'', ''The New Yorker'', ''Le Monde'' and ''Vanity Fair (magazine), Vanity Fair''. In comics, Mattotti won an Eisner Awards, Eisner Award in 2003 for his ''Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde'' graphic novel. Biography Born in Brescia, he studied architecture when he was young, but did not finish the course. Instead he became a comics artist. Hirokazu Kore-eda
is a Japanese film director, producer, screenwriter, and editor. He began his career in television and has since directed more than a dozen feature films, including '' Nobody Knows'' (2004), '' Still Walking'' (2008), and '' After the Storm'' (2016). He won the Jury Prize at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival for '' Like Father, Like Son'', and won the Palme d'Or at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival for '' Shoplifters''. Early life and education Kore-eda's father was born in Taiwan before being conscripted into the Japanese military during World War II and detained in Siberia for three years after the end of the war. Paolo Virzì
Paolo Virzì (; born 4 March 1964) is an Italian film director, writer and producer. Early life and work Virzì was born in Livorno, Italy, in 1964, as the son of a Sicilian police officer in the Carabinieri and a former singer. After spending his early childhood in Turin in the north of Italy, Virzì's family moved back to Livorno where he grew up in the working class area of "Le Sorgenti". As a small boy, he started to cultivate his lifelong passion for literature: Mark Twain and Charles Dickens were among his favourite authors and their classic "coming of age" novels would later serve as a model for his screenplays. is a Japanese filmmaker and actor.
