2019 Summit League Softball Tournament
The 2019 Summit League softball tournament took place from May 8–11, 2019. The top six regular-season finishers of the league's seven teams met in the double-elimination tournament at the Ellig Sports Complex on the campus of North Dakota State University in Fargo, North Dakota. North Dakota State was the defending champion, and successfully defended their title following their defeat of second-seeded South Dakota in the final round. This was the tenth Summit League title for the Bison, who earned the Summit League's automatic berth to the 2019 NCAA Division I softball tournament with the tournament title. The North Dakota State Bison softball team is part of the athletic program at North Dakota State University in Fargo, North Dakota. They are members of the NCAA Division I and the Summit League. South Dakota Coyotes
The South Dakota Coyotes, also known as the USD Coyotes ( ), are the athletic teams for the University of South Dakota. Their team colors are vermilion and white. They have been members of Summit League of the NCAA's Division I since the 2011–12 school year. The football team plays in Division I's Football Championship Subdivision as a member of the Missouri Valley Football Conference. The Coyotes were charter members of the Division II North Central Conference and were members until 2008 when it upgraded to Division I. Before the 2016–17 school year, most of the Coyotes' athletic events were held in the multi-purpose DakotaDome, located in Vermillion, South Dakota. Summit League
The Summit League, or The Summit, is an NCAA Division I intercollegiate athletic conference with its membership mostly located in the Midwestern United States, from Minnesota in the east, to the Dakotas, Nebraska and Colorado to the West, and Missouri and Oklahoma to the South. Founded as the Association of Mid-Continent Universities in 1982, it rebranded as the Mid-Continent Conference in 1989, then again as the Summit League on June 1, 2007. The 2019 NCAA Division I softball tournament was held from May 31 to June 4, 2019, as the final part of the 2019 NCAA Division I softball season. Thirty-two teams were awarded automatic bids as champions of their conferences, and the remaining 32 were selected at-large by the NCAA Division I softball selection committee. The 64-team, double-elimination tournament concluded with the 2019 Women's College World Series at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City. The Western Illinois Leathernecks are the teams and athletes that represent Western Illinois University, located in Macomb, Illinois, in NCAA Division I sports.
