This is a list of events in Scottish television from 2019. Events January *No events. February *12 February – Details of BBC Scotland's flagship news programme, ''The Nine'', are released. The 60-minute programme will air daily from 9.00pm, and has a fifteen strong team of presenters and reporters. It will be anchored by Rebecca Curran and Martin Geissler. *17 February – BBC Two Scotland closes in preparation for the launch of the BBC Scotland channel. Viewers in Scotland can still watch the national version of BBC Two, with regional content aired by BBC Two Scotland being transferred to the new channel. *24 February – At 7pm, the BBC Scotland channel launches. Eòrpa
' (''Europe'') is a long-running Scottish Gaelic-language current affairs programme broadcast on BBC Alba. The series has been running since April 1993 and has covered political and social issues affecting Europe and Europeans over that time including issues affecting the Western Isles. It is broadcast weekly in Scottish Gaelic with English subtitles. It is funded by the Gaelic Media Service and produced by BBC Gàidhlig. ' is shown on BBC Alba weekly and used to be shown on BBC Two Scotland until its closure in 2019 for the new BBC Scotland channel. Reputation ' hit the headlines in May 2008, specially mentioned in the Scottish Broadcasting Commission report. Two Doors Down (TV Series)
''Two Doors Down'' is a Scottish television sitcom, produced by BBC Studios. It was created by Simon Carlyle and Gregor Sharp, and stars Arabella Weir, Alex Norton, Doon Mackichan, Jonathan Watson and Elaine C. Smith as neighbours in a suburban street in Scotland. Following a one-off Hogmanay special broadcast nationwide on BBC One in December 2013, a full series was commissioned, and began airing on BBC Two in April 2016, with a second that November. A further five series and four Christmas specials were broadcast over 2017 to 2023, moving to BBC One in late 2022 for its Christmas special, and its seventh series broadcast in late 2023. ''Two Doors Down'' won the Best Comedy award at the 2017 Royal Television Society Scotland Awards, with separate BAFTA Scotland wins for cast and crew over the course of its run. Scot Squad
''Scot Squad'' is a Scottish television mockumentary series about a fictional Scottish police force, made in a fly on the wall style. The show first aired on 27 October 2014 on BBC One Scotland. The show has aired seven series, including specials, on the channel. As of series 8, which began on 5 January 2023, the show airs on BBC Scotland channel. The show is directed by Iain Davidson and is narrated by Joe Hullait. Former '' Absolutely'' star Jack Docherty plays the fictional force's police chief. In November 2016, a special crossover episode made for ''Children in Need'' featured several of the show's characters meeting characters from Scottish soap opera ''River City''. Shetland (TV Series)
''Shetland'' is a British crime drama television series produced by ITV Studios for BBC Scotland. First broadcast on BBC One on 10 March 2013, it is originally based upon the novels of Ann Cleeves and adapted by David Kane. The first seven series starred Douglas Henshall as DI Jimmy Pérez, whilst Ashley Jensen stars as DI Ruth Calder from the eighth series. The cast also includes Alison O'Donnell as DS Alison "Tosh" McIntosh and Steven Robertson as DC Sandy Wilson, as well as Lewis Howden and Anne Kidd. Henshall won the 2016 BAFTA Scotland award for Best Actor and the series received the award for Best TV Drama. The stories take place largely on the eponymous archipelago, although some of the filming takes place on the Scottish mainland. ''Scotland Tonight'' is a Scottish news and current affairs programme, covering the two STV franchise areas of Northern and Central Scotland, produced by STV News. The programme is presented by ''STV News at Six'' Central anchor John MacKay on Mondays & Tuesdays and former Sky News Scotland correspondent Rona Dougall on Wednesdays & Thursday. Details The half-hour programme, which launched on Monday 24 October 2011, replacing the former STV weekly-political programme '' Politics Now''. ''Scotland Tonight'' airs at 22:40 on Monday – Wednesday nights following the late bulletin from STV News; the Thursday edition has aired in a prime-time 19:30 slot since January 2020. The Nightshift (TV Series)
''The Nightshift'' is a Scottish overnight regional television programme broadcast on STV in Northern and Central Scotland. The overnight strand initially began as a local six-week pilot programme in the STV Central region on Thursday 22 April 2010, before launching a second edition for the STV North region on Tuesday 13 July 2010. The service, broadcast live every night from STV's transmission control centre at Pacific Quay in Glasgow, features highlights of archived STV programmes, reports from ''STV News at Six'', showbiz news items and archive aerial footage of Scotland, as well as texts & e-mails read out live on air by an out-of-vision presenter, Additionally, STV aired a short ITV News bulletin at around 3am before opting out of the network to return to ''The Nightshift'' programme for the remainder of the allocated time. STV News At Six
''STV News'' is a Scottish news division produced by STV. The news department produces two regional services covering STV's Channel 3 franchise areas of Northern and Central Scotland. STV News programmes are produced from studios in Glasgow and Aberdeen with reporters also based at newsrooms in Edinburgh, Dundee and Inverness and political correspondents based at Holyrood and Westminster. Freelance correspondents and camera crews are based on the Orkney and Shetland Isles, Wick and Fort William with a permanent Western Isles correspondent based in Stornoway. In addition to its daily bulletins and online services, STV News also produces the current affairs programme ''Scotland Tonight'', the showbiz magazine show ''What's On Scotland'', along with feature documentaries. STV Rugby
''STV Rugby'' was a Scottish regional television programme featuring highlights of Pro12 rugby union matches involving Edinburgh Rugby and Glasgow Warriors. The programme, produced by the STV News department in Glasgow, was first broadcast in the 2009-10 season after a deal with the Celtic League Association, Scottish Rugby and STV was reached, following the closure of Setanta Sports in the UK. Magners League rugby returned to STV for the 2010-11 season, under the new name of '' Sports Centre: Rugby''. The ''STV Rugby'' brand returned for the 2011-12 season, after ''Sports Centre'' was axed. The 2012/2013 season was the last to be covered by ''STV Rugby''. ''An Là'' (''The Day'') is a Scottish Gaelic-language news programme broadcast on BBC Alba and produced by BBC Naidheachdan (BBC News) and BBC Scotland. The programme, based at BBC Alba's newsroom in Inverness, began at 8pm on 22 September 2008 and provides a 30-minute bulletin of Scottish, British and international news for Gaelic speakers seven days a week. The Sunday night review programme, composed of highlights from the week's bulletins as well as material from '' Eòrpa'', called ''Seachd Là'', began at 6.30pm on 28 September 2008. Broadcast history ''An Là'' broadcasts from Studio G at the BBC Alba studio in Inverness alongside ''Seachd Là and An Là'' Sports (BBC Spòrs). Daybreak Scotland
''Daybreak Scotland'' (previously ''GMTV Scotland'') was the regional news broadcaster for the two ITV regions in northern and central Scotland, provided for the ITV breakfast station ITV Breakfast. The bulletins were produced for '' Daybreak'' (previously ''GMTV'') by Macmillan Media, and were broadcast from studios in Glasgow. Before 3 December 2007, the regional news opt outs during ''GMTV'' were provided by the ITV franchise holders in central and northern Scotland, STV Central and STV North respectively. However, in 2007, the contract for providing the regional news was awarded to Macmillan Media. Macmillan Media also produced '' Daybreak Northern Ireland'' news for broadcast in Northern Ireland. Meanwhile, the regional news for the ITV regions in England and Wales and the Channel Islands are produced by the corresponding ITV plc regions.
