2019 Emirates Cup
The 2019 Emirates Cup was a pre-season football friendly tournament hosted by Arsenal at its home ground, the Emirates Stadium. It was the tenth Emirates Cup, an invitational competition inaugurated in 2007. Held on 28 July 2019, the participants were Arsenal ( men's and women's), Bayern Munich (women's only) and Lyon (men's only). In this edition, a new one-day format was introduced, with Arsenal women competing for the first time. Background The Emirates Cup was inaugurated in July 2007 after Arsenal finalised plans to stage a pre-season competition at its home ground. The competition is named after Arsenal's main sponsor Emirates; the airline's association with the football club began in 2004. Jennifer Patricia Beattie (born 13 May 1991) is a Scottish professional footballer who plays for Arsenal of the FA WSL and the Scotland national team. Beattie is a tall, strong, right-footed player. Ruby Grant (born 15 April 2002) is an English footballer who plays for the United States college soccer team North Carolina Tar Heels as a midfielder. She previously played for West Ham United and Arsenal in the FA WSL. Janni Arnth Jensen (born 15 October 1986) is a Danish former footballer who played as a defender. She previously played for Danish Elitedivisionen club Fortuna Hjørring, Swedish Damallsvenskan club Linköpings FC, English club Arsenal, in Italy for Fiorentina, and for Rangers in the Scottish Women's Premier League. Emma Mukandi ( Mitchell; born 19 September 1992) is a Scottish professional footballer who plays for FA WSL club Reading. She began her senior career with Glasgow City then joined German Frauen-Bundesliga club SGS Essen. Primarily a defender, Mukandi has also played as a forward. Kim Alison Little (born 29 June 1990) is a Scottish footballer who plays as a midfielder for and captains Arsenal of the English FA WSL.
