2019 Clarkson Cup
The 2019 Clarkson Cup was held at Ricoh Coliseum in Toronto on 24 March 2019 with the Calgary Inferno defeating the Canadiennes de Montreal by a score of 5-2. Brianna Decker scored the game-winning goal during a power play opportunity in the second period, with Kacey Bellamy logging the assist. Clarkson Cup
The Clarkson Cup (french: La Coupe Clarkson) is a women's ice hockey trophy, which from 2009 to 2019 was awarded to the winner of the Canadian Women's Hockey Championship (CWHL champion). With the folding of the Canadian Women's Hockey League (CWHL) in 2019, the Cup has not been awarded since. Like the Stanley Cup and Canada's Jeanne Sauvé Memorial Cup, it was named after a former Governor General of Canada, Adrienne Clarkson. Though initially awarded in 2006 to the Canadian national women's hockey team, it was intended to be awarded to the top women's club in Canada. From 2006 to 2008, it was not awarded, owing to rights issues between Clarkson, Hockey Canada, and the artists responsible for making the trophy. Venla Hovi
Venla Hovi (; born 28 October 1987) is a Finnish former ice hockey forward and the current head coach of the Metropolitan Riveters in the Premier Hockey Federation (PHF). She played with the Finnish national team and won bronze medals at the 2010 and 2018 Winter Olympic Games and at the 2008, 2009, and 2017 IIHF Women's World Championships, and a silver medal at the 2019 IIHF Women's World Championship. Hovi announced her retirement from top athletic competition the day following the achievement of silver at the 2019 Worlds. Following her retirement, Hovi served as an on-ice instructor with True North, the Winnipeg Jets' hockey development program. Katelyn Gosling
Katelyn Gosling (born May 8, 1993) is a Canadian women's ice hockey player. Having earned Canadian Interuniversity Sport All-Canadian honours while competing for the Western Mustangs women's ice hockey program, Gosling was claimed by the Calgary Inferno in the 2016 CWHL Draft. She would also compete with Canada's national team at the Winter Universiade, serving as Canada's captain at the 2017 tournament. Halli Krzyzaniak (born February 4, 1995) is a Canadian women's ice hockey player, currently playing for the Calgary section of the PWHPA. She made her debut with the Canada women's national ice hockey team at the 2014 4 Nations Cup. Playing career Krzyzaniak moved to Kelowna, British Columbia, at age 13 to attend the Pursuit of Excellence Hockey Academy. Brigette Lacquette (born November 10, 1992) is a Canadian ice hockey player, currently playing for the Calgary section of the PWHPA and the Canadian national team, playing defence. She participated at the 2015 IIHF Women's World Championship. In the autumn of 2015, Lacquette joined the Calgary Inferno of the CWHL. In 2018, Lacquette became the first First Nations woman to play for the Canadian women's Olympic hockey team.
