2019 Austin Elite Season
The 2019 Austin Elite season was the 2nd in the clubs history since their entry to the Major League Rugby in 2017. The 2019 season is the program's last season under the name Austin Elite. In September 2019, the program announced the club to be renamed to Austin Herd, but was later changed to Austin Gilgronis, due to new ownership. Alain Hyardet was the coach of the club for the second consecutive year. Ben Mitchell was the captain the club for the first year. The Elite played their home matchups at Dell Diamond in Round Rock, Texas. The program used an alternate stadium to host a game in San Antonio at Toyota Field. Austin Elite finished the season winless and became the first time in Major League Rugby to do so. Ben Mitchell (rugby Union)
Ben Mitchell (born 6 April 1994) is an English-born Irish professional rugby union player who is currently a lock. , he is with the United States team Seattle Seawolves in Major League Rugby (MLR). He previously played for Youghal RFC, University College Cork in Ireland, the Gentlemen of Aspen RFC of Colorado, Austin Elite and San Diego Legion. Career Mitchell was educated at the independent Midleton College and then at University College Cork (UCC), both of which have produced leading rugby players. At UCC, he studied Commerce and joined University College Cork RFC. In his first year and a half, he played in the university club's under-20 team, then in 2014 joined the senior team in the All Ireland League, remaining on the team until halfway through the 2017/18 season. Infinity Park is a stadium in the Denver enclave of Glendale, Colorado, and was formerly the unofficial home venue of the United States national rugby union team. The stadium has a seating capacity of 5,000 people. It opened in 2007, at a cost of $22.5 million. It is the first rugby-specific, municipally-owned stadium in the United States. Infinity Park is the venue for several domestic rugby union teams. The field is home to the Glendale Merlins, a Division I men's rugby team that have won the national championship, and of the Denver Barbarians. Starfire Sports is a multi-purpose stadium and sporting facility in Tukwila, Washington, United States. It is located on the banks of the Green River, just south of Seattle. The stadium is operated by the nonprofit corporation Starfire Sports and is home to several soccer and rugby teams. Maimonides Park (formerly MCU Park and KeySpan Park) is a minor league baseball stadium on the Riegelmann Boardwalk in Coney Island, Brooklyn, New York City. The home team and primary tenant is the New York Mets-affiliated Brooklyn Cyclones of the South Atlantic League. The stadium has also hosted other teams as well. Alumni Field is an outdoor football, rugby and soccer stadium located at York University's Keele Campus in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is the former home of the York Lions. The stadium was known as York Stadium prior to 2017. The Toronto Arrows split its home games at Alumni Field and Lamport Stadium during its inaugural 2019 Major League Rugby season.
