2019 Asian Athletics Championships
The 2019 Asian Athletics Championships was the 23rd edition of the Asian Athletics Championships. It was held from 21 to 24 April 2019 at the Khalifa International Stadium in Doha, Qatar. During the closing ceremony of the 22nd Asian Athletics Championships in Bhubaneswar India, President of Asian Athletics Association (AAA) Dahlan Al Hamad officially handed over the AAA Flag to Qatar Olympic Committee Secretary-General and Qatar Athletics Federation President Thani Abdulrahman Al Kuwari. The event was at the Khalifa International Stadium and it served as the test event for the 2019 World Athletics Championships which were held at the same venue. Yaqoob is currently serving a four year competition ban (2023-2027) due to an anti-doping regulation violation in relation to testing positive for stanozolol. Birhanu Balew (born 27 February 1996) is an Ethiopian-born long-distance runner representing Bahrain. He reached the final of the 5000 m event at the 2016 Summer Olympics. Athletics career Early career Birhanu started competing internationally in 2015. In 2016 Birhanu competed in his first Olympic Games at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games. Musab Adam Ali (, born 17 April 1995) is a Qatari middle-distance runner specialising in the 1500 metres. Ajay Kumar Saroj (born 1 May 1997) is an Indian middle-distance runner. He won gold medals in the 1500 m event at the 2016 South Asian Games and the 2017 Asian Athletics Championships. Abraham Kipchirchir Rotich (born 26 June 1993) is a Kenyan-born Bahraini middle-distance runner. Rotich won the 800 metres at the 2012 Diamond League meeting in Monaco. Career 2012 Rotich opened his 2012 season at the Ostrava Golden Spike meeting on 25 May, placing third in the 800 metres in 1:45.52. He then improved to 1:44.46 in Rehlingen three days later; both times were inside the Olympic qualification standards. However, he only placed fourth at the 2012 Kenyan Olympic trials, missing out on an Olympic berth as the top three were selected. He then clocked a new personal best of 1:43.62 at Liège on 5 July.
