2018–19 Botswana Premier League
The 2018–19 Botswana Premier League was the 42nd season of the Botswana Premier League, the top-tier football league in Botswana, since its establishment in 1978. The season started on 18 August 2018. The league drew an average attendance of 1,300 per match. Season summary Township Rollers won their fourth consecutive Botswana Premier League after a 0–0 draw with Police XI on 27 May 2019. This season also featured the relegation of four-time champions Mochudi Centre Chiefs, who only picked up five points from nine matches late in the season. Team changes Two teams were relegated after one year in the Botswana Premier League, TAFIC F.C. and Uniao Flamengo Santos. They were joined by last place finishers Gilport Lions. They were replaced by First Division North winners BR Highlanders, First Division South winners Notwane F.C., and promotion playoff winners Prisons XI. Botswana Premier League
The Botswana Premier League is the highest level Association football, football league in Botswana. Organised by the Botswana Football Association, the league was formed in 1978 to replace the pre-independence Bechuanaland Union African Soccer League, which was regional. Participants in the first edition of the league included Tlokweng Pirates, Notwane, Black Peril FC, Black Peril, Queens Park Rangers (Botswana), Queens Park Rangers and a team from Ngwaketse district. The league has always been dominated by the teams that are based south of Dibete or in the southern part of the country. In the 2006–07 season, ECCO City Green, Ecco City Greens made history by becoming the first team from the north to lift the lucrative competition. The league is sponsored by a mobile phone operator Be Mobile to the tune of 30 million pula. Orapa United FC
Orapa United FC is a Botswana football club based in Orapa. The team currently plays in Botswana Premier League having gained promotion from Botswana First Division North League in the 2013–14 season. The club was founded by Johane Mchive, Tidimalo Tito and Kaisara Kaisara in 2012 by merging five football clubs in the Orapa Township. Kaisara Kaisara served as Orapa United's first Interim chairman until he called the first elective Annual General Meeting. Notwane FC is a football club from Botswana based in Gaborone. It is named after the Notwane River. Notwane is owned by GMG Global Investments, a subsidiary of GMG Holdings and recently made major scoop by signing former South African international players, former Orlando Pirates player Benedict Vilakazi and former Mamelodi Sundowns player Manqoba Ngwenya History Notwane were founded in 1965 and played in the first season of the Botswana Premier League. Gilport Lions Football Club is a soccer club from Botswana based in Lobatse. Gilport Lions team colours are green and white. The club was previously called ''Botswana Meat Commission F.C.''. They have won the FA Challenge Cup in 2016. History The club was founded in 1969 by workers at the Botswana Meat Commission in Lobatse. They won the 2007 FA Challenge Cup, defeating ECCO City Greens F.C. on penalties. They also made the cup final in 1996, losing 2–0 to Township Rollers. Tati African Football Independent Club also known as TAFIC for short, is a football club based in Francistown, Botswana. The team was relegated from the Botswana Premier League to the First Division North in 2014. Nicknamed Matjimenyenga, after a stream, which runs behind the low-income locations of Maipaafela and Kgaphamadi. The club motto: "Undipe ndi kupe". The club was founded in 1959 as a breakaway from the then popular TAFA football club. Information has it that the founders of TAFIC, which was initially known as Sharp Shooters in its formative years, were based at Kgaphamadi.
