2018–19 AWIHL Season
The 2018–19 AWIHL season is the 12th season of the Australian Women's Ice Hockey League (AWIHL). It ran from 27 October 2018 until 10 March 2019. Five teams competed in 30 regular season games followed by 4 playoff games, making up the AWIHL Finals weekend. The Melbourne Ice (Women), Melbourne Ice claimed the double by winning both the premiership title for finishing top of the regular season standings and the Joan McKowen Memorial Trophy championship title by winning the grand final. Sydney Sirens finished runner-up to both titles and the Adelaide Rush claimed the wooden spoon. Australian Women's Ice Hockey League
The Australian Women's Ice Hockey League (AWIHL) is Australia's top-tier women's ice hockey league. Established in 2005 as Australia's first women's national league, the AWIHL has Amateur sports, amateur status and is sanctioned by Ice Hockey Australia (a member of the International Ice Hockey Federation). The AWIHL is currently contested by six teams from five States and territories of Australia, Australian states, including South Australia, Queensland, New South Wales, Western Australia and Victoria (state), Victoria. The league champion is awarded the Joan McKowen Memorial Trophy and the premier is awarded The Gower Memorial Shield (which replaced the Stephanie Boxall Trophy in 2023). Perth Inferno
The Perth Inferno is an amateur ice hockey team based in Perth, Western Australia. The team is a member of the Australian Women's Ice Hockey League (AWIHL), the highest level of women's ice hockey in Australia. The team was founded by Ice Hockey WA in 2016 as the Western Australian state women's team before adopting the Inferno identity and joining the AWIHL as an expansion team in 2018–19. Their home venue is Cockburn Ice Arena, located in south-west Perth. The Inferno have claimed one Gower Memorial Shield premiership. Final (competition)
The final of a competition is the match or round in which the winner of the entire event is decided. Overview In sports competitions following a knockout system, where only two individuals or teams compete in each match, the final is usually played between the winners of two semifinals. However, if more than two entrants are required for each match, then qualification for the final may be through some other process such as winning ''heats''. Macquarie Ice Rink
The Macquarie Ice Rink is an ice sports and public skate centre, opened in 1981 and located within the Macquarie Shopping Centre in the northern Sydney suburb of Macquarie Park, New South Wales, Australia. It is the current home of the Sydney Bears and Sydney Ice Dogs AIHL ice hockey teams. History The ''Macquarie Ice Rink'' was opened in 1981 as a recreational and sporting ice venue in northern Sydney. In 1982, The Macquarie Bears ice hockey club was founded and played hockey matches from elite to development grade at Macquarie Ice Rink until 2002 when the club moved to Blacktown Ice Rink and the AIHL team moved to the Sydney Ice Arena. The Liverpool Catholic Club Ice Rink (also known as LCC Sports Complex Liverpool) is an ice sports and public skate centre, built in 1979 and located at the Hoxton Park precinct of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. It is the home of the LCC Saints Ice Hockey Club, with Junior and Senior Teams and home to LCC Ice Skating Club (LCCISC), producing Olympic and international figure skating athletes.
