2018 World Junior Figure Skating Championships
The 2018 World Junior Figure Skating Championships were held in Sofia, Bulgaria from 5–11 March 2018. Records The following new junior records were set during this competition: Qualification Minimum TES The ISU stipulates that the minimum scores must be achieved at an ISU-recognized junior international competition in the ongoing or preceding season, no later than 21 days before the first official practice day. Number of entries per discipline Based on the results of the 2017 Junior World Championships, each ISU member nation fielded one to three entries per discipline. 2017–18 Figure Skating Season
The 2017–18 figure skating season began on July 1, 2017, and ended on June 30, 2018. During this season, elite skaters competed at the ISU Championship level in the 2018 European, Four Continents, World Junior, and World Championships, as well as at the 2018 Winter Olympics. Short Dance
The short dance (SD) was the first segment of an ice dancing competition from the 2010–2011 to the 2017–2018 seasons. It was approved in June 2010 by the International Skating Union (ISU). It merged the original dance (OD) and compulsory dance (CD), which were both discontinued. The ISU renamed the short dance to the rhythm dance (RD) in 2018. The SD was composed of two parts: the pattern dance (formerly known as the compulsory dance), which lasted about one minute and could be placed anywhere in the SD, and the creative section, which took up most of the SD. The pattern dance changed each year, and was announced beforehand by the ISU. The ISU also published yearly rule changes. Ice dancers were expected to perform five required elements in their SD: two segments of the pattern dance, one short lift, a step sequence, and a set of twizzles. Yakau Zenko ( be, Якаў Аляксандравіч Зянько; born 21 July 2000) is a Belarusian retired figure skater. He competed in the final segment at the 2016 World Junior Championships. Career Zenko began learning to skate in 2004. Early in his career, he trained under Julia Soldatova at Moskvich in Moscow. By the 2015–2016 season, he had joined Eteri Tutberidze and Sergei Dudakov at Sambo 70 (Moscow). Making his ISU Junior Grand Prix (JGP) debut, he placed 16th in Austria and 8th in Poland, both held in September 2015. A few months later, he became the Belarusian national senior bronze medalist and junior champion. Stefanie Pesendorfer (born 31 August 2003) is an Austrian figure skater. She is the 2019 Tirnavia Ice Cup champion, the 2019 Prague Ice Cup champion, and the 2022 Austrian champion. Luc Maierhofer (born 24 May 2002) is an Austrian figure skater. He is the 2019 Golden Bear of Zagreb silver medalist and the 2022 Austrian national champion.
