2018 Welsh Conservatives Leadership Election
The 2018 Welsh Conservatives leadership election was triggered on 27 June by the resignation of Andrew RT Davies. Davies had led the Welsh Conservatives since 14 July 2011. Paul Davies won the contest and became the new leader. Procedure Candidates require a total of four nominations from Conservative AMs, including themselves, to stand. If there are three or more candidates, Conservative AMs vote until there are two candidates, who are then voted on by the party's membership. Timetable Campaign Leader Andrew RT Davies stood down in June 2018. ''WalesOnline'' reported that this was because he felt he did not have the full support of the Conservative group. He told the BBC that he had been aware of plans to remove him for more than a year. His departure was credited to what ''The Guardian'' described as his "uncompromising" support for Brexit. 2011 Welsh Conservatives Leadership Election
The 2011 Welsh Conservatives leadership election was held on 14 July 2011. Andrew RT Davies defeated Nick Ramsay, the only other candidate. Following the 2011 Assembly election the party's leader Nick Bourne lost his Mid and West Wales seat. Paul Davies then became the interim leader whilst an election took place. The contest then consisted of Andrew RT Davies ( South Wales Central) against Ramsay (Monmouth). Andrew RT Davies won with some 53.1 per cent of the vote on a 49 per cent turnout of the party's Welsh membership. Candidates Result The conservative Party did not release the raw vote figures only the percentages won. Nick Ramsay
Nick Ramsay (born 10 June 1975) is a British politician who served as the Member of the Senedd (MS) for Monmouth from 2007 to 2021. Originally a member of the Welsh Conservatives, he served as Shadow Minister of Finance under Conservative Leader in the Senedd, Paul Davies, but lost the position in January 2021 under the new leadership of Andrew RT Davies. Ramsay sat as an Independent member before unsuccessfully seeking reelection as an Independent in the 2021 Senedd election. Ramsay defected to the Liberal Democrats in February 2022. David Melding
David Robert Michael Melding (born 28 August 1962) is a former Welsh Conservative Party politician, who served as a Member of the Senedd (MS) for South Wales Central between 1999 and 2021. He was the Deputy Presiding Officer of the Senedd between 2011 and 2016. Early life Melding was born in Neath, where he attended Dwr-y-Felin Comprehensive School.
