2018 Tripoli Attack
The 2018 National Oil Corporation attack was a terrorist attack that occurred on 10 September 2018, in which at least six gunmen from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant in Libya carried out an attack, taking several hostages and killing at least 2 staff members from the National Oil Corporation. During the attack, a shootout occurred with security forces loyal to the Tripoli-based government. An al-Jazeera journalist reported that the gunmen attacked the main gate of the facility, and the attack caused a wave of panic in Tripoli. Reactions : Italian Foreign Minister Enzo Milanesi condemned the attack in a phone call to Fayez al-Sarraj. Fayez Al-Sarraj
Fayez Mustafa al-Sarraj ( ar, فائز السراج or ; born 20 February 1960) is a Libyan politician who served as the Chairman of the Presidential Council of Libya and Head of Government of the Government of National Accord from 2016 to 2021, which was formed on 17 December 2015 under the Libyan Political Agreement. He has been a member of the Parliament of Tripoli. Biography Fayez Mustafa was born on 20 February 1960 in Tripoli. He comes from a wealthy family of Kouloughli descent which owned shops and vast amount of land. Al-Sarraj himself is said to be of Turkish origin. His father, Mostafa al-Sarraj was a minister during the Libyan Monarchy. Fayez al-Sarraj trained as an architect and during the Colonel Muammar Gaddafi era he was employed at the Housing Ministry. The In Amenas hostage crisis began on 16 January 2013, when al-Qaeda-linked terrorists affiliated with a brigade led by Mokhtar Belmokhtar took expat hostages at the Tigantourine gas facility near In Amenas, Algeria. One of Belmokhtar's senior lieutenants, Abdul al Nigeri, led the attack and was among the terrorists killed. After four days, the Algerian special forces raided the site, in an effort to free the hostages. At least 39 foreign hostages were killed along with an Algerian security guard, although the true figure is not known, as were 29 terrorists. Enzo Moavero Milanesi (born 17 August 1954) is an Italian independent politician and law professor who served as Minister of Foreign Affairs in the first Cabinet of Giuseppe Conte from 1 June 2018 to 5 September 2019.
