2018 Team Speedway Junior World Championship
The 2018 Team Speedway Junior World Championship was the 14th FIM Team Under-21 World Championship season. The final took place on 18 August, 2018 at the Outrup Stadium in Outrup, Denmark. Poland won their 11th Team Under-21 World Championship, and their fifth in succession. The Poles accumulated 46 points, with Bartosz Smektała top scoring for them with 13 points. Team Speedway Junior World Championship
The Team Speedway Under-21 World Championship is a motorcycle speedway, speedway competition to determine the World Championship for national Under-21 teams (the sport's equivalent of the Under-21 World Cup in football). As of 2022, the event has been known as the Speedway of Nations 2, the Under-21 division of the Speedway of Nations. The first edition of the competition was in 2005 prior to its incorporation with the Speedway of Nations. Andreas Lyager
Andreas Lyager Hansen (born 1 December 1997) is a speedway rider from Denmark. Speedway career Lyager joined Scunthorpe Scorpions for the 2015 Premier League speedway season and 2016 Premier League speedway season. Lyager reached two finals of the World Under-21 Championships in 2017 and 2018 and was the Danish Junior champion in 2018, following two silver medals in the previous two years. He also won three medals at the Junior World Team Championships (bronze in 2016 and 2017 and silver in 2018) and a bronze medal at the 2017 Individual Speedway Junior European Championship. 2018 Speedway Of Nations
The 2018 Speedway of Nations was the first FIM Speedway of Nations. The competition consisted of two race-off events and a two-legged final. The event was won by Russia, who beat Great Britain in the Grand Final. It replaced the Speedway World Cup. Format The 2018 Speedway of Nations was a pairs event, with each nation being represented by two senior riders and one rider under the age of 21. Each meeting was staged over 21 heats with the scores from each rider added together to give a total for each nation. The two race-off events consisted of seven teams, with three qualifying for the final. The final, which included hosts Poland, was staged over two legs with the scores from each added together. The top scoring nation went straight through to the Grand Final, while the second and third placed nations competed in the final qualifier for the chance to reach the Grand Final. Anton Karlsson (born 20 July 2000) is a Motorcycle speedway, speedway rider from Sweden. Speedway career Karlsson came to prominence in 2018, when he won the silver medal at the Swedish Under 21 Championship. He also helped Sweden reach the final of the 2018 Team Speedway Junior World Championship. The following year in 2019 he won a bronze at the Swedish U21 event. Zach Wajtknecht (born 8 February 1998) is a motorcycle speedway rider from Great Britain. Career At an early age Wajtknecht became a double World Champion, twice triumphing in the FIM 125cc Grasstrack Youth Gold Trophy. He followed up these successes by being crowned British 250cc Youth Champion in 2013 and winner of the FIM 250cc Longtrack Youth World Cup in 2014. These successes led to Zach being awarded the prestigious Pinhard trophy, a trophy he described himself as being "over the moon" to win. Wajtknecht was handed his big break in speedway by the newly reformed National League Birmingham Brummies ahead of the 2015 season, the team's first season in the third tier of British Speedway.
