2018 Supercars Championship
The 2018 Supercars Championship (known for commercial reasons as the 2018 Virgin Australia Supercars Championship) was an FIA-sanctioned international motor racing series for Supercars. It was the twentieth running of the Supercars Championship and the twenty-second series in which Supercars have contested the premier Australian touring car title. Teams and drivers competed in thirty-one races at sixteen venues across Australia and New Zealand for the championship titles. Scott McLaughin won his maiden title at the final race in Newcastle, while Red Bull Holden Racing Team won the Teams Championship at Pukekohe. The 2018 season saw the introduction of the first Gen 2 Supercars, which opened up the category up to a wider variety of body shapes and engine configurations. Aaron Cameron
Aaron Cameron (born 27 January 2000) is an Australian racing driver, competing in the TCR Australia Series in the No. 18 Peugeot 308 TCR for Team Valvoline GRM. Early career Cameron's racing career began in karting in his home state of Victoria, with his breakthrough season coming aged 14 in 2014, as he won various state-level junior titles. In 2015, as well as moving up to the national level, he competed in selected races in Europe, including the Rotax Max Challenge Grand Finals and the KF-Junior category of the Karting World Championship. Benalla
Benalla is a small city located on the Broken River gateway to the High Country north-eastern region of Victoria, Australia, about north east of the state capital Melbourne. Winton Motor Raceway
Winton Motor Raceway is a motor racing track in Winton, near Benalla, Victoria, Australia. History The Benalla Auto Club began planning for a permanent racing track around 1958, as a replacement for their existing track at Barjarg. In 1960 it was decided to build the track at Winton Recreation Reserve and the track was completed in twelve months. The circuit hosted its first race meeting on 26 November 1961. The circuit was immediately popular - a March 1965 meeting featuring the Neptune touring car and the Victorian Formula Two championship drew a crowd of approximately 10,000 spectators. 2017 Newcastle 500
The 2017 Coates Hire Newcastle 500 was a motor racing event for the Supercars Championship, held on the weekend of 24 to 26 November 2017. The event was held on the Newcastle Street Circuit in Newcastle East, New South Wales and consisted of two races, 250 kilometres in length. It was the fourteenth and final event in the 2017 Supercars Championship and hosted Races 25 and 26 of the season. The event was the first running of the Newcastle 500, following the discontinuation of the Sydney 500 at the conclusion of the 2016 season. Aaren Russell (born 22 August 1991) is an Australian motor-racing driver in the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship. Career history Junior formulae In 2008 and 2009, Russell competed in the NSW Formula Vee championship, a stepping stone taken by several current main series V8 Supercars drivers. After placing 8th in his 2008 rookie season and 2nd in 2009, the Development V8 Supercar Series, the second tier of V8 Supercars racing, became his next target.
