2018 London, Ontario Municipal Election
The 2018 London municipal election was a municipal election that occurred on October 22, 2018, to elect the Mayor of London, London City Council and the Thames Valley District School Board, London District Catholic School Board, Conseil scolaire catholique Providence and Conseil scolaire Viamonde. The election was held on the same day as elections in every other municipality in Ontario. As per the Ontario Municipal Elections Act, 1996, nomination papers for candidates for municipal and school board elections could be filed from May 1, 2018, at which time the campaign period began. For the first time since Calgary's last use in 1971, a city in Canada used preferential voting to elect members of its city council, the mayor and city councillors. Arielle Kayabaga (born ) is a Canadian politician who has represented the electoral district of London West as a member of Parliament since 2021. CBCL-FM is a Canadian radio station in London, Ontario, broadcasting at 93.5 FM. It is the city's CBC Radio One station. Their studio is located in downtown London in the Central branch of the London Public Library while its transmitter is located near Byron in West London. History The station was launched in 1978. Prior to its launch, CBC Radio programming was aired on private affiliate CFPL. CBCL started out as a rebroadcaster of CBL Toronto, but was granted a separate licence in 1998. 2017 Edmonton Municipal Election
The 2017 Edmonton municipal election was held Monday, October 16, 2017, to elect a mayor and 12 councillors to the city council, the nine trustees to Edmonton Public Schools, and the seven trustees to the Edmonton Catholic Schools. One incumbent public school trustee had no challenger so was elected by acclamation; for the other eight balloting was conducted. They were all elected to four year terms in single-member wards. All contests were conducted according to the first past the post (FPTP) system. Although FPTP elects the candidate that receives the most votes, it does not always produce a winner that has received over 50% of the votes. The winner in seven of the 12 city councillor contests was elected with less than a majority of the votes cast. Instant-runoff Voting
Instant-runoff voting (IRV; ranked-choice voting (RCV), preferential voting, alternative vote) is a single-winner ranked voting election system where Sequential loser method, one or more eliminations are used to simulate Runoff (election), runoff elections. When no candidate has a majority of the votes in the first round of counting, each following round eliminates the candidate with the fewest First-preference votes, first-preferences (among the remaining candidates) and transfers their votes if possible. Voters in the province of Ontario elected mayors, councillors, school board trustees and all other elected officials in all of the List of municipalities in Ontario, province's municipalities.
