2018 LFF I Lyga
The 2018 LFF I Lyga was the 29th season of the I Lyga, the second tier association football league of Lithuania. The season began on 25 March 2018 and ended on 20 October 2018. Teams Changes from last season A total of fifteen clubs were confirmed for the season, same as previous season, but only fourteen competed as Šilutė withdrew 4 days prior to the league's start after an uncompetitive performance in the 2018 Žemaitijos Taurė. Three of them were reserve teams of the A Lyga sides - one less than maximum allowed for the competitions and last season number. I Lyga
The I Lyga, LFF I Lyga, Pirma Lyga, is the second tier of professional Lithuanian football championship. Format Organized by the Lithuanian Football Federation (LFF), I Lyga is contested by 14-16 teams, with the top team gaining promotion to A Lyga and replaced by the lowest-placed team in top division and the bottom 4 clubs being relegated to the II Lyga. Starting with the 2016 season, the second-placed team qualifies to promotion play-offs with A Lyga's next-to-last team. The final list of participants often does not correlate to the final results of the previous season, as the participation is finalized through the Lithuanian Football Federation league licensing process. Futbolo Klubas Riteriai, also known as FK Riteriai or as Riteriai, is a Lithuanian professional football club based in Vilnius. The team has been playing in the top level of Lithuanian football, the A Lyga, since 2014. Until 21 February 2019, the club was based in Trakai and was known as FK Trakai. 2018 II Lyga
The 2018 II Lyga season was the second season since return to two divisions system, the twentieth after switch to spring-to-fall format and the thirtieth overall after the restoration of Independence. The II Lyga is the third-tier of football in Lithuania. It is divided into the South Zone and the West Zone, each containing a total of thirteen clubs. The top two teams from each division are promoted to the I Lyga, while the last placed teams from both divisions are relegated to the appropriate regional division of the III Lyga, except in separately regulated cases for the B teams of higher tier clubs. The 2018 A Lyga was the 29th season of the A Lyga, the top-tier association football league of Lithuania. The season began on 25 February 2018 and ended on 11 November 2018. Sūduva Marijampolė began the season as defending champions having won their first league title last year. II Lyga
Lithuanian Football Federation's II lyga, LFF II lyga – the third tier Lithuanian football championship. As of 2021, the II lyga is a single league, consisting of planned 16 teams. The two top teams gain promotion to the I Lyga. Until the end of 2020 season the league consisted of the Southern Zone and the Western Zone. The Northern Zone and the Eastern Zone existed in some past seasons, but were done away with due to the dwindling number of participating clubs. League Structure Southern Zone The zone has existed since 1999 until 2020. Kaunas County Football Federation was in charge of the competition in this zone. Eastern Zone The zone existed in 2015 and 2016, however, due to a club mass withdrawal from the competition, the zone was done away with, and the remaining clubs joined the Southern Zone. FK Palanga
FK Palanga was a professional football club based in Palanga, Lithuania. The team competes in the A Lyga, the top division of Lithuanian football in 2018 and 2019 seasons. History FK Palanga was founded in 2010 and introduced its first team to the third tier Antra Lyga in 2011. FK Palanga started off strong and won this championship in the first year with no defeats. As a result of their victory, they were promoted in 2012 to the Primera Lyga (second tier). FK Palanga plateaued for the next three years, sitting at the bottom of each standing. The A Lyga is the top division of professional football in Lithuania. The A Lyga is an abbreviation of Aukščiausia lyga meaning Highest League. It is organized by Lithuanian Football Federation LFF ( lt, Lietuvos Futbolo Federacija). The Aukščiausia lyga also existed during the Soviet period of Lithuania, but was not considered to be a professional league until dissolution of the Soviet Union. Žemaitijos Taurė
The Žemaitijos Taurė () is an annual pre-season football tournament between teams from Samogitia. It is organized by the Telšiai County Football Federation and takes place in early March at the Telšiai Artificial Football Pitch in Telšiai, Lithuania. History The origins of the tournament seeks Samogitian Championship, which was started in the mid-1930s, with Džiugas winning the first three tournaments of 1935, 1936, 1937. The first modern Samogitia Cup was organised by Telšiai County Football Federation in 2015 to mark the 80 years from the birth of original tournament. It's hosted by Džiugas and held on 8–21 March as simple round-robin tournament. Šilutė won the inaugural tournament after defeating Džiugas 2–1 in the last round. The format for later editions was changed a little bit as additional games for 1st, 3rd and 5th places were added after the group competitions.
