Halbe Zijlstra
Halbe Zijlstra (; born 21 January 1969) is a retired Dutch politician who served as Minister of Foreign Affairs from 26 October 2017 to 13 February 2018 in the Third Rutte cabinet. He is a member of the People's Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD). Zijlstra, a management consultant by occupation, was elected as a member of the House of Representatives after general election of 2006 serving from 30 November 2006 until 14 October 2010 when he was appointed as State Secretary for Education, Culture and Science in the First Rutte cabinet, serving until 5 November 2012. Following the election of 2012, he returned to the House of Representatives, serving from 20 September 2012 until 26 October 2017; he was chosen as parliamentary leader, serving from 1 November 2012 until 23 March 2017. King's Commissioner
A King's commissioner (, ''CvdK'') is the head of government and legislature in a Provinces of the Netherlands, province of the Netherlands. Pinkpop Festival
Pinkpop is an annual music festival held in Landgraaf, Netherlands. It is usually held on the Pentecost weekend (''Pinksteren'' in Dutch, hence the name). If Pentecost falls on an early date in May, the festival is held later in June. Starting in 1970, at Burgemeester Damen Sportpark in the city of Geleen, Pinkpop is the oldest and longest running annual dedicated pop and rock music festival in the world. Pinkpop is a three-day festival, from Saturday through Monday when on Pentecost weekend, or Friday through Sunday otherwise, with a 60,000 people per day capacity, and with performances on four separate stages. From 2006 through 2011, Pinkpop sold out six years in a row. During 44 editions, more than two million people have attended Pinkpop. Some 700 music acts have played at the festival. 2017–18 Eredivisie
The 2017–18 Eredivisie was the 62nd season of the Eredivisie since its establishment in 1955. The season began on 11 August 2017 and concluded on 6 May 2018; the Europa League and relegation play-offs took place later that month. Feyenoord were the defending champions from the previous season. On 15 April 2018, PSV became champions for the 24th time after defeating their closest rival Ajax 3–0 at the Philips Stadion. Philips Sport Vereniging (; ), abbreviated as PSV and internationally known as PSV Eindhoven (), is a Dutch sports club from Eindhoven, Netherlands. It is best known for its professional association football, football department, which has played in the Eredivisie, the top tier in Dutch football, since its inception in 1956. Eemshaven Railway Station
Eemshaven railway station is a train station on the Sauwerd–Roodeschool railway, located in the Eemshaven harbour in the province of Groningen, Netherlands. It is the northernmost train station in the country. The station was opened on 28 March 2018 although an official inauguration by King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands took place on 20 June 2018. The station is mainly used by ferry passengers to the German island of Borkum. Train services are very limited, to only a few trains a day, connecting to this ferry service. The existing bus connection to the city of Groningen was cancelled in favour of the train connection. Additionally, some harbour workers may use the train service, although its use for commuting is not very attractive due to the remote location of the station and the very limited service (no trains during rush hours). 2018 Dutch Intelligence And Security Services Act Referendum
An advisory referendum on the Intelligence and Security Services Act 2017 (, abbreviated 'Wiv') was held in the Netherlands on 21 March 2018, alongside the municipal elections. It was the second referendum to be held under the Dutch Advisory Referendum Act after the 2016 Ukraine–European Union Association Agreement referendum. A plurality of voters (49.44%) voted against the law, resulting in its rejection. Voter turnout was 51.5%, above the 30% threshold for validation of the result. As with the previous referendum, the referendum created a no-show paradox, where the 46.5% of voters who turned out to vote ''for'' the bill instead causing its ''rejection'', by helping the referendum meet the quota. If voters who cast ''for'' ballots had instead refused to show up, the turnout of 27.5% would have been insufficient for the result to be declared valid. 2018 Dutch Municipal Elections
Municipal elections were held on 21 March 2018 in 335 List of municipalities of the Netherlands, municipalities in the Netherlands. This election determined the composition of the Municipal council (Netherlands), municipal councils for the following four years. The election coincided with the 2018 Dutch Intelligence and Security Services Act referendum, Intelligence and Security Services Act referendum. Background In the previous municipal elections, local political parties won by far most votes and seats. Nationally, all local political parties won 28% of the votes and a third of municipal council seats. Local parties have seen a steady rise since the 1990s. In 2018, Vlieland will be the only municipality in which no national political parties will contest the election.
