John Pombe Joseph Magufuli (29 October 1959 – 17 March 2021) was the fifth president of Tanzania, serving from 2015 until his death in 2021. He served as Minister of Works, Transport and Communications from 2000 to 2005 and 2010 to 2015 and was chairman of the Southern African Development Community from 2019 to 2020. Samia Suluhu Hassan (born 27 January 1960) is a Tanzanian politician who has been serving since 19 March 2021 as the sixth (and first female) president of Tanzania. She is a member of the ruling social-democrat Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) party and the third female head of government of an East African Community (EAC) country. Kassim Majaliwa Majaliwa (born 22 December 1961) is a Tanzanian politician who has been Prime Minister of Tanzania since 2015. He was appointed by President John Magufuli after the 2015 general election. He is a member of the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi party and has been a Member of Parliament for Ruangwa constituency since 2010. Background and education Majaliwa was born into a Muslim family on December 22, 1961. He completed his schooling from Kigonsera Secondary School in 1983. He then worked as teacher for sixteen years until 1999. The chief justice of Tanzania is the highest post in the judicial system of Tanzania. The chief justice is appointed by the president and presides over the Court of Appeal of Tanzania. History After the First World War, the former German-governed colony Tanganyika was put under British authority in the Treaty of Versailles in 1919. A year later, a High Court was established by an Order in Council and the post of the chief justice was formed. Tanganyika became independent in 1961 and after a year was transformed into a republic. Sinking Of MV Nyerere
MV ''Nyerere'' is a Tanzanian ferry that capsized on 20 September 2018 while travelling between the islands of Ukerewe and Ukara on Lake Victoria. The Tanzanian government have declared that 228 people died as a result of the capsizing while 41 could be rescued. The capsized ferry was successfully righted, retrieved and unloaded more than one week after the disaster. More than 400 children lost their parents or their guardians through the disaster. Vessel The ship's owners and operators, Tanzanian Electrical, Mechanical and Services Agency (TEMESA), reported that the ferry had a capacity of 100 passengers, 25 tonnes of cargo and three cars and made her maiden journey in 2004. Robert Kisanga (20 June 1933 – 23 January 2018) was a Tanzanian judge. He served as a judge in the High Court of Tanzania and was a Justice of Appeal at the Court of Appeal of the United Republic of Tanzania. He served as the first Chairman of the Tanzania Commission for Human Rights and Good Governance before retiring in 2008. He was educated at the University of Birmingham (LLB) in England.
