River City
''River City'' is a Scottish television soap opera created by Stephen Greenhorn which has been broadcast on BBC One Scotland since September 2002. Since 2019, the show has aired episodes a day earlier on the new BBC Scotland channel. Set in the fictional district of Shieldinch in the West End of Glasgow, the programme follows the stories of local residents and their families as they go about their daily lives. From its inception in 2002, the soap struggled to grasp viewers' approval, but would gradually see a rise in popularity. In 2023, the soap won 'Best Drama' at the Royal Television Society Scotland awards. History In 2000, BBC Scotland were in talks of launching its own serial drama for Scotland. Take The High Road
''Take the High Road'' (renamed ''High Road'' from 1994 to 2003) was a Scottish soap opera produced by Scottish Television, which started in February 1980 as an ITV (TV network), ITV daytime programme, and was broadcast until 2003. It was set in the fictional village of Glendarroch, Scotland, with exteriors filmed in the village of Luss on the banks of Loch Lomond. The series was dropped by most ITV stations in the 1990s, while Scottish, Grampian Television, Grampian, ITV Border, Border and Ulster Television, Ulster stations continued to screen it until its last episode. Edith MacArthur
Edith MacArthur (8 March 1926 – 25 April 2018) was a Scottish actress noted for her elegant screen presence. Early life MacArthur was born in Ardrossan, North Ayrshire, the daughter of Donald MacArthur and Minnie Ross MacArthur. She studied at Ardrossan Academy and the Royal College of Music. During World War II, she worked at the Admiralty Map Correction station in Ayrshire. Career MacArthur began acting with the amateur Ardrossan & Saltcoats Players. She made her professional stage debut with the Wilson Barrett Company at the Lyceum Theatre, Edinburgh. She worked in various Scottish stage companies, including Perth Rep, the Edinburgh Gateway and the Glasgow Citizens, before moving to London in 1960. She made her London stage debut that year, in Alec Coppel's '' The Gazebo,'' at the Savoy. With the Royal Shakespeare Company in the 1960s, she played Lady Montague in ''Romeo and Juliet''. Two Doors Down (TV Series)
''Two Doors Down'' is a Scottish television sitcom, produced by BBC Studios. It was created by Simon Carlyle and Gregor Sharp, and stars Arabella Weir, Alex Norton, Doon Mackichan, Jonathan Watson and Elaine C. Smith as neighbours in a suburban street in Scotland. Following a one-off Hogmanay special broadcast nationwide on BBC One in December 2013, a full series was commissioned, and began airing on BBC Two in April 2016, with a second that November. A further five series and four Christmas specials were broadcast over 2017 to 2023, moving to BBC One in late 2022 for its Christmas special, and its seventh series broadcast in late 2023. ''Two Doors Down'' won the Best Comedy award at the 2017 Royal Television Society Scotland Awards, with separate BAFTA Scotland wins for cast and crew over the course of its run. Still Game
''Still Game'' is a Scotland, Scottish sitcom produced by Effingee Productions, The Comedy Unit and BBC Scotland. It was created by Ford Kiernan and Greg Hemphill, who played the lead characters, Jack Jarvis (Still Game character), Jack Jarvis, Esq and Victor McDade, two Glasgow, Glaswegian pensioners. The characters first appeared in the pair's previous TV sketch show ''Chewin' the Fat'', which aired in Scotland from January 1999 until December 2005. Following its debut on 6 September 2002, List of Still Game episodes, 62 episodes of ''Still Game'' were aired, including Christmas and Hogmanay specials in addition to almost 50 live shows. The first three series were broadcast only on BBC One Scotland, though five episodes selected from the first two series were later broadcast throughout the UK on BBC Two in January and February 2004. Scot Squad
''Scot Squad'' is a Scottish television mockumentary series about a fictional Scottish police force, made in a fly on the wall style. The show first aired on 27 October 2014 on BBC One Scotland. The show has aired seven series, including specials, on the channel. As of series 8, which began on 5 January 2023, the show airs on BBC Scotland channel. The show is directed by Iain Davidson and is narrated by Joe Hullait. Former '' Absolutely'' star Jack Docherty plays the fictional force's police chief. In November 2016, a special crossover episode made for ''Children in Need'' featured several of the show's characters meeting characters from Scottish soap opera ''River City''. Shetland (TV Series)
''Shetland'' is a British crime drama television series produced by ITV Studios for BBC Scotland. First broadcast on BBC One on 10 March 2013, it is originally based upon the novels of Ann Cleeves and adapted by David Kane. The first seven series starred Douglas Henshall as DI Jimmy Pérez, whilst Ashley Jensen stars as DI Ruth Calder from the eighth series. The cast also includes Alison O'Donnell as DS Alison "Tosh" McIntosh and Steven Robertson as DC Sandy Wilson, as well as Lewis Howden and Anne Kidd. Henshall won the 2016 BAFTA Scotland award for Best Actor and the series received the award for Best TV Drama. The stories take place largely on the eponymous archipelago, although some of the filming takes place on the Scottish mainland. ''Scotland Tonight'' is a Scottish news and current affairs programme, covering the two STV franchise areas of Northern and Central Scotland, produced by STV News. The programme is presented by ''STV News at Six'' Central anchor John MacKay on Mondays & Tuesdays and former Sky News Scotland correspondent Rona Dougall on Wednesdays & Thursday. The Nightshift (TV Series)
''The Nightshift'' is a Scottish overnight regional television programme broadcast on STV in Northern and Central Scotland. The overnight strand initially began as a local six-week pilot programme in the STV Central region on Thursday 22 April 2010, before launching a second edition for the STV North region on Tuesday 13 July 2010. STV Rugby
''STV Rugby'' was a Scottish regional television programme featuring highlights of Pro12 rugby union matches involving Edinburgh Rugby and Glasgow Warriors. The programme, produced by the STV News department in Glasgow, was first broadcast in the 2009-10 season after a deal with the Celtic League Association, Scottish Rugby and STV was reached, following the closure of Setanta Sports in the UK. Magners League rugby returned to STV for the 2010-11 season, under the new name of '' Sports Centre: Rugby''.
