Honduras
Honduras, officially the Republic of Honduras, is a country in Central America. It is bordered to the west by Guatemala, to the southwest by El Salvador, to the southeast by Nicaragua, to the south by the Pacific Ocean at the Gulf of Fonseca, and to the north by the Gulf of Honduras, a large inlet of the Caribbean Sea. Its Capital city, capital and largest city is Tegucigalpa. The president of Honduras (), officially known as the President of the Republic of Honduras (), is the head of state and head of government of Honduras, and the Commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces. According to the 1982 Constitution of Honduras, the Government of Honduras consists of three branches: Executive, Legislative and Judicial. Juan Orlando Hernández
Juan Orlando Hernández Alvarado (; born 28 October 1968), also known by his initials JOH, is a Honduran lawyer, former politician and convicted drug trafficker who was 38th president of Honduras from 27 January 2014 to 27 January 2022 for two consecutive terms. A member of the National Party of Honduras, National Party, Hernández previously served as the president of the National Congress of Honduras between January 2010 and June 2013, when he was given permission by the Congress to absent himself from all responsibilities in the Congress to dedicate himself to his presidential campaign. The nominal President of the National Congress of Honduras is currently Luis Redondo. Mauricio Oliva Herrera (born 8 March 1951 in Tegucigalpa) is a Honduran surgeon and politician. He served as deputy of the National Congress of Honduras representing the National Party of Honduras for Choluteca and as the President of the National Congress of Honduras. 2018 Swan Islands Earthquake
On 9 January 2018, at approximately 8:51 p.m. local time (02:51:10 January UTC), a 7.5 earthquake struck in the Yucatán Basin of the Caribbean Sea, east of Great Swan Island off the coast of Honduras. The earthquake was felt across Central America, and rattled windows in Tegucigalpa. The earthquake was also felt in the Cayman Islands. Tsunami advisories were issued for certain areas by the U.S. Tsunami Warning Center. They were later cancelled after further monitoring. No tsunami was generated since the earthquake was an almost pure strike-slip on a near vertical plane, producing little upward movement of the sea floor that would cause a large displacement of water. Juan Carlos García Barahona (8 March 1988 – 8 January 2018) was a Honduran professional footballer who played as a left-back. He began his career at Marathón and later went on to Olimpia. He signed for Wigan Athletic in 2013, where he made one appearance in the Football League Cup. He also had a loan spell at Tenerife in which he did not play a match. William Chong Wong
William Chong Wong (died June 17, 2018) was a Honduran economist, professor and politician. He twice served as Minister of Finance of Honduras, during the administrations of President Ricardo Maduro and President Porfirio Lobo Sosa. He was born in Honduras to Chinese immigrant parents and educated in Spain and the United States. He was a professor at Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Honduras and co-founded the Central American Technological University in 1987. Early life and education Chong Wong was born in Puerto Cortés, Honduras, the eldest of five sons of two Chinese immigrants who had fled war-torn China in the 1940s. José Walter Williams Castillo (30 September 1983 – 11 December 2018) was a Honduran soccer player who played as a defender for several clubs in the Honduran Liga Nacional. International career On 28 June 2013 he was called up to the Honduras national football team by Luis Fernando Suárez for the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup. However, he could not join the team due to a visa problem. Roberto Suazo Córdova (March 17, 1927 – December 22, 2018) was the 29th President of Honduras from January 27, 1982 until January 27, 1986. Suazo Córdova died on December 22, 2018 following an ulcer surgical operation at the age of 91.
