Bhutan, officially the Kingdom of Bhutan, is a landlocked country in South Asia, in the Eastern Himalayas between China to the north and northwest and India to the south and southeast. List Of Rulers Of Bhutan
Bhutan was founded and unified as a country by Ngawang Namgyal, 1st Zhabdrung Rinpoche in the mid–17th century. After his death in 1651, Bhutan nominally followed his recommended " Dual System of Government". Under the dual system, government control was split between a secular leader, the Druk Desi (, ''Deb Raja'');The original title is ་; . and a religious leader, the Je Khenpo (). Both the Druk Desi and Je Khenpo were under the nominal authority of the Zhabdrung Rinpoche, a reincarnation of Ngawang Namgyal. Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck
Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck (born 21 February 1980) is the fifth Druk Gyalpo (Dragon King) of Bhutan. His reign began in 2006 after his father Jigme Singye Wangchuck abdicated the throne. A public coronation ceremony was held on 6 November 2008, a year that marked 100 years of House of Wangchuck, monarchy in Bhutan. Prime Minister Of Bhutan
The prime minister of Bhutan (Lyonchen, ) is the head of government of Bhutan. The prime minister is nominated by the party that wins the most seats in the National Assembly (Gyelyong Tshogdu) and heads the executive cabinet, called the Council of Ministers (Lhengye Zhungtshog). On 9 April 2008, Jigme Thinley became the first elected prime minister; he took office following the country's first democratic election. Tshering Tobgay
Tshering Tobgay (; born 19 September 1965) is a Bhutanese politician who is the seventh List of Prime Ministers of Bhutan, prime minister of Bhutan since 2024 and also served in office from 2013 to 2018. Tobgay is the leader of the People's Democratic Party (Bhutan), People's Democratic Party, and was also the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly (Bhutan), National Assembly from March 2008 to April 2013. Early life and education Tobgay was born in Kalimpong, Kalimpong, India. Tobgay was born into a family of six brothers. Both of his parents helped develop the country of Bhutan. Dasho Tshering Wangchuk () is a Bhutanese jurist who served as the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Bhutan from 2014 to 2019. In 2018, Wanghuk served as the interim Head of Government of Bhutan, when serving as the Chief Advisor of the Interim Government, following the dissolution of the Bhutanese National Assembly in preparation of elections. Dasho Dr. Lotay Tshering (; born 10 May 1969) is a Bhutanese politician and surgeon who was the prime minister of Bhutan, in office from 7 November 2018 to 1 November 2023. He was the president of Druk Nyamrup Tshogpa (DNT) since 14 May 2018 until he resigned in 2025. The president of DNT Dasho Dr. Lotay Tshering resigned from the party and politics ending his 11-year political career.
