Michael Mohammed Ahmad
Michael Mohammed Ahmad is an Australian novelist, teacher and community arts worker. Biography Ahmad was born in Inner Sydney and attended Punchbowl Boys High School. In 2012, Ahmad founded SWEATSHOP Western Sydney Literacy Movement, an arts organisation that promotes literacy in Western Sydney. In 2014 he published his debut novel ''The Tribe'' with Giramondo. Ahmad has stated he was motivated to write ''The Tribe'' in order to counteract negative stereotypes about Arab Australians that flourished in Australia following the September 11 attacks. In 2017 Ahmad received his Doctorate of Creative Arts at Western Sydney University. In 2018 he published '' The Lebs'' with Hachette, which was shortlisted for the 2019 Miles Franklin Award. Tim Winton
Timothy John Winton (born 4 August 1960) is an Australian writer. He has written novels, children's books, non-fiction books, and short stories. In 1997, he was named a Living Treasure by the National Trust of Australia, and has won the Miles Franklin Award four times. Life and career Timothy John Winton was born on 4 August 1960 in Subiaco, an inner western suburb of Perth, Western Australia. Kerry Greenwood
Kerry Isabelle Greenwood (born 1954) is an Australian author and lawyer. She has written many plays and books, most notably a string of historical detective novels centred on the character of Phryne Fisher, which was adapted as the popular television series '' Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries''. She writes mysteries, science-fiction, historical fiction, children's stories, and plays. Greenwood earned the Australian women's crime fiction Davitt Award in 2002 for her young adult novel ''The Three-Pronged Dagger''. Candice Fox (born 1985) is an Australian novelist who won the 2014 Ned Kelly Award for Best First Novel for ''Hades''. She was born in the western suburbs of Sydney into a large family. She spent a brief period in the Royal Australian Navy before studying and teaching at university level. Lili Wilkinson (born 7 April 1981) is an Australian author. She has also written for several publications, including The Age, and manageinsideadog.com.au a website for teenagers about books, as part of her role at the Centre For Youth Literature at the State Library of Victoria until January 2011. Early life Wilkinson was born in Melbourne, the daughter of children's author, Carole Wilkinson, and film and television sound recordist, John Wilkinson. Shaun Tan (born 1973) is an Australian artist, writer and film maker. He won an Academy Award for '' The Lost Thing'', a 2011 animated film adaptation of a 2000 picture book he wrote and illustrated. Richard Roxburgh (born 23 January 1962) is an Australian actor, writer, producer, and director. He is the recipient of a number of accolades across film, television, and theatre, including three AACTA Awards (including AFI), three Logie Awards, and two Helpmann Awards. Ambelin Kwaymullina
Ambelin Kwaymullina (born 1975 in Perth, Western Australia) is a Palyku novelist, illustrator, and assistant professor of law at the University of Western Australia. She was born as the eldest of three children to Sally Morgan, an author and artist, and Paul Morgan, a teacher. She graduated from the University of Western Australia in 1998 with a Bachelor of Laws with honours. Kwaymullina's academic research focuses on both public law, and on Indigenous peoples and the law. Her works of fiction include both young adult science fiction novels and children's picture books. Mem Fox
Merrion Frances "Mem" Fox, AM (born Merrion Frances Partridge; 5 March 1946) is an Australian writer of children's books and an educationalist specialising in literacy. Fox has been semi-retired since 1996, but she still gives seminars and lives in Adelaide, South Australia. Career In 1981, while working in drama, Fox decided to retrain in literacy studies. She said: "Literacy has become the great focus of my life – it's my passion, my battle and my mission and my exhaustion." She has published books on literacy aimed at children, their parents, teachers and educators. She held the position of Associate Professor, Literacy Studies, in the School of Education at Flinders University until her retirement in 1996.
