2018 IIHF World Championship
The 2018 IIHF World Championship was an international ice hockey tournament hosted by the Danish cities of Copenhagen and Herning, held from 4–20 May 2018. The IIHF announced the winning bid on 23 May 2014 in Minsk, Belarus. South Korea made its debut at the World Championship, having played in the lower divisions previously. Sweden went undefeated at the tournament to win their second consecutive and eleventh overall title after defeating Switzerland in the final. The United States won the bronze medal game, defeating Canada 4–1. The official mascot of the tournament was a cygnet, inspired by the Danish writer and poet Hans Christian Andersen's fairytale about '' The Ugly Duckling''. Alexander Dmitriyevich Barabanov (russian: Александр Дмитриевич Барабанов) (born 17 June 1994) is a Russian professional ice hockey player for the San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League (NHL). Playing career Barabanov made his Kontinental Hockey League debut playing with powerhouse SKA Saint Petersburg during the 2013–14 KHL season. Gustav Nyquist (born 1 September 1989) is a Swedish professional ice hockey forward and alternate captain for the Columbus Blue Jackets of the National Hockey League (NHL). Nyquist was drafted 121st overall by the Detroit Red Wings in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, with whom he spent the first portion of his NHL career. He also briefly played for the San Jose Sharks. Early life Nyquist was born in Halmstad in southern Sweden. He and his family later moved to the city of Malmö, where Nyquist began playing hockey for a local youth team, Limhamn Hockey. Dennis Everberg (born 31 December 1991) is a Swedish professional ice hockey winger for Rögle BK of the Swedish Hockey League (SHL). He has previously played in the NHL with the Colorado Avalanche.
