2018 Central Pulse Season
The 2018 Central Pulse season saw the Central Pulse netball team compete in the 2018 ANZ Premiership and the 2018 Netball New Zealand Super Club. With a team coached by Yvette McCausland-Durie, captained by Katrina Grant and featuring Karin Burger, Aliyah Dunn, Ameliaranne Ekenasio, Sulu Fitzpatrick and Claire Kersten, Central Pulse finished the regular season as minor premiers. However, in the grand final Southern Steel defeated Pulse 54–53. However, Pulse subsequently won the 2018 Netball New Zealand Super Club tournament, defeating Mainland Tactix 61–56 in the final. Yvette McCausland-Durie
Yvette McCausland-Durie is a New Zealand netball coach and former netball player. As a player, she played for Western Flyers during the National Bank Cup era and represented New Zealand at under-21 level. She was a member of the New Zealand team that won the 1992 World Youth Netball Championships. As a head coach, McCausland-Durie guided Central Pulse to the 2019 and 2020 ANZ Premierships and the 2018 Super Club title. She has also worked with the senior New Zealand team as an assistant coach and with the under-21 team as a head coach. She was head coach when New Zealand won gold at the 2009 World Youth Netball Championships. McCausland-Durie is also a schoolteacher and educator. Sara Bayman
Sara Francis-Bayman ( Bayman, born 23 December 1984) is a netball player and coach from Billinge near Wigan, England. She represented England in the 2010 Commonwealth Games. At a club level, Bayman has represented Team Bath, Manchester Thunder and UWS Sirens in the Netball Superleague, and Central Pulse in the ANZ Premiership. She will be acting as Director of Netball of Loughborough Lightning for the 2019 Superleague season. Waikato Bay Of Plenty Magic
Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic are a New Zealand netball team based in Hamilton. Between 1999 and 2007, they played in the Coca-Cola Cup/National Bank Cup league. Between 2008 and 2016, they played in the ANZ Championship. Since 2017, Magic have represented Netball Waikato Bay of Plenty in the ANZ Premiership. Netball Waikato Bay of Plenty is the governing body that represents the North Island regions of Waikato and Bay of Plenty. During the National Bank Cup era, Magic were premiers in 2005 and 2006. During the ANZ Championship era, Magic were the most successful New Zealand team. ANZ Premiership
The ANZ Premiership is the top level netball league featuring teams from New Zealand. In 2017 it replaced the ANZ Championship, which also included teams from Australia, as the top level netball league in New Zealand. It is organised by Netball New Zealand. Its main sponsor is ANZ. In 2017, Southern Steel were the inaugural ANZ Premiership winners. Central Pulse are the league's most successful team, having won three premierships. Saviour Tui
Saviour Tui (born 17 October 2001) is a Samoa netball international. Tui was a member of three title winning teams in New Zealand's National Netball League. In 2018 and 2019, Tui won titles with Central Zone/Central Manawa. In 2021 she won a third title with Northern Marvels. She was also a member of the Central Pulse team that won the 2018 Netball New Zealand Super Club tournament. She was a fringe member of the 2021 Northern Mystics team that were ANZ Premiership champions. Since 2022, she has played for Southern Steel in the ANZ Premiership. Whitney Souness
Whitney Souness (born 1995) is a New Zealand netball player. She currently plays for Central Pulse and had played 30 times for the New Zealand national netball team. Early life Souness was born on 12 October or 12 November 1995 (sources vary). She comes from Porirua in the Wellington Region of the North Island of New Zealand. She attended St Mary's College in Wellington and, on the school's netball team, was coached by the former Samoan international, Pelesa Semu. She was chosen for the New Zealand Secondary Schools side in 2013, and was in the national development squad in 2014 and 2015. Netball career Souness joined Central Pulse in 2015, however she suffered an ACL injury while playing for Wellington in the final of the national provincial championships. Tiana Metuarau
Tiana Metuarau (born 15 January 2001) is a New Zealand netball international. Between 2017 and 2020, she was a prominent member of the Central Pulse team that won the 2018 Super Club title and the 2019 and 2020 ANZ Premiership titles. In 2022, Metuarau was co-captain of the Pulse team that won a third ANZ Premiership title. Early life, family and education Metuarau is the daughter of Waimarama Taumaunu and George Metuarau. She has two siblings, Tuakana and Tanara. Her mother, Waimarama, is a former New Zealand netball international, former national team captain and head coach and Central Pulse's director of high performance. Maddy Gordon
Maddy Gordon (born 16 January 2000) is a New Zealand netball international. She was a member of the New Zealand teams that won the 2021 Constellation Cup and the 2022 Taini Jamison Trophy Series. She also represented New Zealand at the 2023 Netball World Cup. Gordon was also a prominent member of the Central Pulse teams that won the 2019, 2020 and 2022 ANZ Premiership titles. Early life, family and education Gordon was born and bred in Whangārei. She is the daughter of Carolyn and David Gordon. She stayed in Whangārei until she was 16. Adelaide Thunderbirds
Adelaide Thunderbirds are an Australian netball team based in Adelaide, South Australia. Since 2017 they have played in Suncorp Super Netball. Between 2008 and 2016, they played in the ANZ Championship and between 1997 and 2007, they played in the Commonwealth Bank Trophy league. Thunderbirds have won four premierships. Cathrine Tuivaiti
Cathrine Tuivaiti (née Latu; born 25 October 1986 in West Auckland, New Zealand) is a New Zealand netball player of Tongan, Samoan, and Māori descent. Career Early career Cathrine Tuivaiti was a member of the New Zealand Secondary Schools and New Zealand U21 teams, and debuted in the National Bank Cup with the Northern Force in 2005. She continued with the team for a further two years, and remained in Auckland with the start of the ANZ Championship in 2008, playing for the new Northern Mystics franchise.
