Holme Pierrepont National Watersports Centre
Holme Pierrepont Country Park, home of The National Water Sports Centre is located in the hamlet of Holme Pierrepont near Nottingham, England and on the River Trent. It is used for many different sports and has received investment which has enabled a major refurbishment of existing facilities as well as introduction of new facilities. Run by Serco on behalf of Nottinghamshire County Council, it was previously one of five National Sports Centres. History The centre was constructed during 1970 and 1971 on a former gravel works and required the excavation of one and a half million cubic yards of material. Gloucester Rowing Club is a rowing (sport), rowing club on the Gloucester and Sharpness Canal, Gloucester-Purton canal based at Gloucester Boathouse, David Hook Way, Hempsted, Gloucester. History The club was founded in 1846, making it one of the oldest rowing clubs in the United Kingdom. In 2010 Gloucester Rowing Club and Hartpury College set up a centre to enable Hartpury students to participate in one of the Great Britain's rowing team centres. In the relationship the students become members of the Gloucester Rowing Club where they access the rowing facilities. Aberdeen Schools Rowing Association (ASRA) was founded in 1960 by Robert Newton and Bryan Steel. It thrives today on the banks of the River Dee, Aberdeen, in Scotland. The club is affiliated to Scottish Rowing. History ASRA has been very successful in National competitions since 1960 and has won medals at three major competitions in Britain. In 1984, during the Aberdeen Boat Club's annual regatta, two association boats containing pupils from the Hazlehead Academy sunk. In 2007 ASRA was awarded a grant from the Big Lottery Fund which allowed ASRA to employ their first paid coach, purchase boats for beginners, ergometers for schools and a minibus and towing vehicle. ASRA is expanding and hoping to build an extension to the current boathouse which was constructed in 2001. Nottingham & Union Rowing Club is a rowing club on the River Trent, based at Trentside, West Bridgford, Nottingham, Nottinghamshire. History The club was founded in 1946 as an amalgamation of two clubs called the Nottingham Union Rowing Club and the original Nottingham Rowing Club (not the modern club formed in 2006). The reason for the merger of the two clubs was because the boathouse belonging to the Nottingham Union club was destroyed by bombs in World War II leaving them no base to row from. The club were the leading rowing club in Nottingham during the 1960s but by 1983 was struggling to recruit members.
