2018 Boise State Broncos Football Team
The 2018 Boise State Broncos football team represented Boise State University during the 2018 NCAA Division I FBS football season. This season was the Broncos' 82nd season overall, fifth under head coach Bryan Harsin, eighth as a member of the Mountain West Conference and sixth within the Mountain Division. The Broncos played their home games at Albertsons Stadium in Boise, Idaho. They finished the season 10–3, 7–1 in Mountain West play to finish in a tie for first place in the Mountain Division with Utah State. Due to their head-to-head win over Utah State, they were champions of the Mountain Division. They represented the Mountain Division in the Mountain West Championship Game where they lost to West Division champion Fresno State. They were invited to the First Responder Bowl against Boston College. With 5:08 left in the 1st quarter, the bowl game was delayed and ultimately canceled and ruled a no contest. Bryan Harsin
Bryan Dale Harsin (born November 1, 1976) is an American football coach and former player who was most recently the head coach at Auburn University. Prior to leading the Auburn Tigers, he coached the Boise State University Broncos from the 2014 season through the 2020 season where he posted a 69–19 overall record while at Boise. He began his head coaching career at Arkansas State University for the 2013 season. Harsin was the co-offensive coordinator at the University of Texas for two seasons where he played a major impact in the teams development on that side. 2017 Mountain West Conference Football Championship Game
The 2017 Mountain West Conference Championship Game was played on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at Albertsons Stadium in Boise, Idaho, to determine the 2017 football champion of the Mountain West Conference (MW). The game featured the MW West Division champion Fresno State Bulldogs visiting the Mountain Division champion Boise State Broncos. It was broadcast nationally by ESPN for the third consecutive year. The championship game is hosted by the participant with the best record in MW play. If the teams have the same conference record, as was the case in 2017, a tiebreaker system is used. Even though the two teams played a conference game on November 25, with Fresno State winning, the MW does not use head-to-head results as its first tiebreaker in such a situation. John Bates (born November 6, 1997) is an American football tight end for the Washington Commanders of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Boise State and was drafted by Washington in the fourth round of the 2021 NFL Draft. Alexander Mattison
Alexander Mattison (born June 19, 1998) is an American football running back for the Minnesota Vikings of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Boise State and was drafted by the Vikings in the third round, 102nd overall of the 2019 NFL Draft. Early years Mattison attended San Bernardino High School in San Bernardino, California, where he played high school football. Since 1990 the Doak Walker Award honors the top running back in college football in the United States. It is named in honor of Doak Walker, a former running back who played for the SMU Mustangs from 1945 to 1949 and in the National Football League for the Detroit Lions from 1950 to 1955. Brett Rypien (; born July 9, 1996) is a Canadian- American football quarterback for the Denver Broncos of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Boise State and signed with the Broncos as an undrafted free agent in 2019. He is the nephew of Super Bowl XXVI MVP quarterback Mark Rypien.
