2018 Blind Cricket World Cup
The 2018 Blind Cricket World Cup was the fifth Blind Cricket World Cup tournament, and was held from 8–20 January 2018 in Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates. In the final, defending champions India defeated Pakistan by 2 wickets to secure their 2nd Blind Cricket World Cup title under the captaincy of Ajay Kumar Reddy. Six teams, Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Australia and Nepal played in the tournament, with Nepal making their first ever appearance. India played all of their group stage matches of the tournament at neutral venues in the United Arab Emirates, after the foreign ministry of India blocked them from travelling to Pakistan. It was later revealed that the Cricket Association for the Blind in India and Pakistan Blind Cricket Council had agreed to shift the Indian matches to the UAE. Deepak Malik (born 1995) is an Indian blind cricketer categorised in B3 division who is currently playing for India national blind cricket team. Biography Deepak Malik was born in the Bhainswal village in the Haryana state in 1995. He was a normal kid who went to school regularly until the age of 8. At the age of 8 in 2004, during the Diwali day he lost his eyesight completely after bursting the firecrackers by mistakenly on to his eyes. After the accident, Deepak went onto study at a blind school in Delhi. Career He has been a member of the national team since playing for India at the 2014 Blind Cricket World Cup. Sri Lanka National Blind Cricket Team represents Sri Lanka at blind cricket. The Sri Lankan team have participated in every edition of the World Cup for Blind. It is run by the Sri Lanka Cricket Association of the Visually Handicapped. The team generally participates in One Day Internationals and T20Is. In the inaugural edition of the ICC Blind Cricket World T20 held in 2012 in India, Sri Lanka finished third after losing to India in the semi-finals. Sri Lanka also went on to participate in the 2nd edition of the ICC Blind World T20 in 2017, which was also held in India. Nepal national blind cricket team represents Nepal at blind cricket. The team has been run and governed by the Cricket Association for the Blind in Nepal (CAB NEP). Nepal blind cricket team made its first appearance in a Blind T20 World Cup tournament during the 2017 Blind T20 World Cup.
