2018 Barbados Premier League
The 2018 Barbados Premier League (officially the Digicel Premier League for sponsorship reasons) is the 72nd season of the highest tier of association football, football in Barbados. The league season began on 11 March and ended on 8 July 2018. Format The 12 teams were divided into two zones of six teams each. Each team played the other teams in their own zone twice and the teams in the other zone once, for a total of 16 matches. The teams who finished first in each zone played in the championship match for the title, while the teams finishing second in each zone played in the third place match. The teams who finished last in each zone were relegated, while the teams who finished fifth played over two matches with the loser also relegated. Barbados Premier League
The Premier League is the top Association football, football league in Barbados. It was created in 1947 and is headed by the Barbados Football Association. Ten teams participate in this league. It is known as the Digicel Premier League for sponsorship reasons. Despite being a league competition in CONCACAF none of the Barbados, Barbadian teams have played in CFU Club Championship or CONCACAF Champions' Cup (the last appearance was in 2000). Barbados, officially the Republic of Barbados, is an island country in the Atlantic Ocean. It is part of the Lesser Antilles of the West Indies and the easternmost island of the Caribbean region. Thierry Gale (born 1 May 2002) is a Barbadian professional footballer who plays as a forward for Polish club Piast Gliwice, on loan from Rapid Wien, and the Barbados national team. Early career Gale played football at St Leonard's Boys School in the Barbados Secondary Schools Football League (BSSFL). He led them to a national title in 2014 at the under-14 level. In 2016, he led the under-16 squad to a double (League and Knockout Cup). He finished as the league's top scorer. He repeated the feat in 2017, scoring three goals (including the game-winner in the final) in the U-16 Knockout Cup, and leading the league with nine goals. That same year, he scored a brace on the final matchday of the U19 League to secure the league title.
