2018 BWF World Championships
The 2018 BWF World Championships was a badminton tournament which was held from 30 July to 5 August at Nanjing Youth Olympic Games Sports Park Arena in Nanjing, China. Host city selection Nanjing was the only bidder for 2018 edition of championships. The bid was approved by Badminton World Federation during council meeting in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Nanjing Youth Olympic Sports Park
The Nanjing Youth Olympic Sports Park () is a sport complex located in Pukou District, Nanjing, China. Its construction was started in December 2011 as part of the venues used for 2014 Summer Youth Olympics. The complex, which occupies around 1,000,000 m2 of land, consists of a main arena with other smaller sport venues. Main arena The main arena consists of two parts, the 21,000-seater Nanjing Youth Olympic Sports Park Arena and the 18,000-seater Nanjing Youth Olympic Sports Park Stadium. Unveiled in November 2017, the indoor arena is the largest indoor stadium in China. The indoor arena can host a wide range of sports such as basketball, badminton, ice hockey, and gymnastics competitions. Li Junhui
Li Junhui (, born 10 May 1995) is a Chinese former badminton player. He was the gold medalist at the 2018 World Championships in the men's doubles event partnered with Liu Yuchen, two times won the gold medal at the Asian Championships in 2017 and 2018, and was a silver medalist at the 2020 Summer Olympics. Li was part of the national team that won the 2018 Asian Games, 2018 Thomas Cup, and 2019 Sudirman Cup. Career Li competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics. Partnered with Liu Yuchen, he finished as a silver medalist in the men's doubles, having been defeated by Lee Yang and Wang Chi-lin of Chinese Taipei in the final. In November 2021, Li announced his retirement from professional badminton citing injuries he had sustained and not fully recovered from since 2017. Apriyani Rahayu
Apriyani Rahayu (born 29 April 1998) is an Indonesian badminton player specializing in doubles. She and Greysia Polii are the reigning Olympic champions in the women's doubles following their win at the 2020 Summer Olympics. She won gold at the 2019 SEA Games, and two bronze medals at the World Championships in 2018 and 2019. Rahayu also won bronze medals at the 2018 Asian Games in the women's team and doubles with her former partner Greysia Polii. Early life Apriyani Rahayu was born in Lawulo village, a remote settlement in Konawe Regency in Southeast Sulawesi. She is the youngest child of an agricultural worker named Ameruddin Pora and his wife, Sitti Jauhar. Greysia Polii
Greysia Polii (; born 11 August 1987) is an Indonesian former badminton player specializing in doubles. She won gold medals in the women's doubles at the 2014 Asian Games, at the 2019 Southeast Asian Games and at the 2020 Summer Olympics. She also won three bronze medals at the World Championships in 2015, 2018, and 2019. Polii is a member of BWF Athletes' Commission to represent the needs and views of athletes to the BWF council and committees from 2013 to 2017 and 2021 to 2025. Having started her career at the Jaya Raya in Jakarta, she later was selected to join the national team in 2003. Polii represented her country in the 2012, 2016 and at the 2020 Summer Olympics. Wakana Nagahara
is a Japanese badminton player. She is a two-time world champion in the women's doubles. Nagahara attended Aomori Yamada High School, and was part of the Japanese national junior team that won the bronze medals at the 2013, 2014 Asian and 2014 World Junior Championships. She won her first senior international title at the 2014 Smiling Fish International in the women's doubles event partnered with Mayu Matsumoto. In national events, she plays for the Hokuto Bank team. Mayu Matsumoto
is a Japanese badminton player. Born in Hokkaido, she graduated from Shiritsu Towanomorisanai High School. She was part of the Hokuto Bank team. Matsumoto was awarded as the 2018 Most Improved Player of the Year by the BWF together with her partner Wakana Nagahara. They obtained the honor after their win in the 2018 BWF World Championships title and improving their ranking from 14 to 3 in the world. Zhang Nan (badminton)
Zhang Nan (; born 1 March 1990) is a Chinese badminton player who specializes in both men's and mixed doubles. He found much success in mixed doubles with his former partner Zhao Yunlei. They won gold in 2012 Summer Olympics, 3 golds in BWF World Championships in 2011, 2014 and 2015 and a gold at the 2014 Asian Games. Having won all major events as a pair, they are considered one of the most successful mixed doubles pairs of all time. Having found huge success in mixed doubles with Zhao, Zhang partnered Fu Haifeng with whom he won gold in 2016 Summer Olympics. Liu Cheng (badminton)
Liu Cheng (; born 4 January 1992) is a retired badminton player who represented China. He was the men's doubles World Champion in 2017 partnered with Zhang Nan, also the mixed doubles World and Asian Junior Champion in 2010 with Bao Yixin. Liu was part of the national team member that won the team events at the 2015, 2021 Sudirman Cup, 2018 Thomas Cup and 2018 Asian Games. Wang Chi-lin
Wang Chi-lin (; born 18 January 1995) is a Taiwanese badminton player who specializes in doubles. He is the 2020 Olympics men's doubles champion. Career In 2021, at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, he and his partner Lee Yang defeated the 2018 World Champions' Li Junhui and Liu Yuchen in the men's doubles final. They became the first unseeded pair to win a gold medal in the Olympics' men's doubles badminton. This was Chinese Taipei's first Olympic medal in badminton. Chen Hung-ling
Chen Hung-ling (; born 10 February 1986) is a Taiwanese badminton player. Chen Hung-ling is a doubles specialist. His best results have come with Cheng Wen-hsing in mixed doubles, but he routinely competes in men's doubles with Lin Yu-lang. In 2011 Chen and Cheng won the tournament at the Japan Super Series. They have reached the semi-finals of five other super series tournaments. He is known as the only player in the elite tournament that wears glasses while playing on the court.
