2018 Austin Elite Season
The 2018 Austin Elite season was both the inaugural season for the club and the inaugural season of Major League Rugby in which the club competed. Alain Hyardet was the first coach of the club. Andrew Suniula was the club's first ever captain. The Elite played their home matchups at Round Rock Multipurpose Complex in Round Rock, Texas. Austin Gilgronis
The Austin Gilgronis were a professional rugby union team based in Austin, Texas, United States. The team was founded in 2017 as the Austin Elite, and competed in Major League Rugby. History On September 19, 2019, after extensive polling at the end of the 2019 campaign, the team opted to rename itself the Herd. The logo remained the same although the orange color action was removed indicating a shift away from using orange for the upcoming season. Prior to the 2020 Austin Gilgronis season, 2020 season, Adam Gilchrist and Loyals LLC purchased the team and renamed it the Gilgronis, a reference to a yet-to-be-produced cocktail based on the Negroni, although the eponymous cocktail appears to just be a negroni with a different name. The name was met with significant backlash from fans. Glendale Raptors
The American Raptors were a professional rugby union team that was based in Glendale, Colorado. The team played in two seasons of the transcontinental Super Rugby Americas competition from 2023 to 2024, before withdrawing from professional rugby ahead of the 2025 season. Established as the amateur "Glendale Raptors" in 2006, the team became a professional club upon joining Major League Rugby as a founding member in 2017, but they played there only three years, competing as the "Colorado Raptors" in their final shortened season of 2020 before withdrawing from the league. Torero Stadium is an outdoor stadium in San Diego, California, located on the campus of the University of San Diego (USD). Opened in 1961, it is the home of the San Diego Toreros football and men's and women's soccer teams. The Seattle Seawolves are an American professional rugby union team based in the Seattle metropolitan area that competes in Major League Rugby (MLR). The team was founded in 2017. The Seawolves won two MLR championships in 2018 and 2019, and lost in the 2022 final and 2024 final. They play home matches at the 4,000-seat main stadium at Starfire Sports in Tukwila, a suburb south of Seattle. Infinity Park is a stadium in the Denver enclave of Glendale, Colorado, and was formerly the unofficial home venue of the United States national rugby union team. Alain Hyardet
Alain Hyardet (born 28 November 1964) is a French rugby union coach and former player. Born in Aix-en-Provence, Hyardet was a centre and played with AS Béziers from 1986 to 1994. It was after moving to Castres Olympique that he earned a France call up, featuring twice in the 1995 Latin Cup competition in Argentina, against Italy and the home side. He got a taste of European rugby in the 1995–96 Heineken Cup, before retiring as a player. Hyardet has coached USA Perpignan, AS Béziers and Montpellier RC in French rugby, as well as Austin Elite for two seasons of Major League Rugby. His son Julien was a professional rugby player. The Legion began play in the league's inaugural 2018 season. History Established in 2017, the San Diego Legion have represented San Diego since their inception.
