The 2018 American League Division Series were two best-of-five-game series in Major League Baseball’s (MLB) 2018 postseason to determine the participating teams of the 2018 American League Championship Series. The three divisional winners, seeded 1–3, and a fourth team — the Wild Card Game winner — played in two series. 2018 Boston Red Sox Season
The 2018 Boston Red Sox season was the 118th season in the team's history, and their 107th season at Fenway Park. Under first year manager Alex Cora, the team finished with a 108–54 record, winning the American League East division title for the third consecutive season, and finished eight games ahead of the second-place New York Yankees. The Red Sox were the first MLB team to post 100 wins during the 2018 season, reaching that milestone for the first time since 1946; they were also the first team to clinch a berth in the 2018 postseason. Dave Flemming
David Braxton Flemming (born May 31, 1976) is an American sportscaster who has been a play-by-play announcer for the San Francisco Giants of Major League Baseball since 2003. Flemming also calls college football, college basketball, major league baseball, and golf on ESPN, as well as the World Series, MLB All-Star Game and World Baseball Classic for MLB International. Flemming grew up in Alexandria, Virginia, listening to current Giants partner Jon Miller call Baltimore Orioles games. 2018 Oakland Athletics Season
The 2018 Oakland Athletics season was the 118th season for the Oakland Athletics franchise, all as members of the American League, and their golden jubilee as a franchise in Oakland. The A's were managed by Bob Melvin in his eighth year as manager of the A's. They played their home games at Oakland Coliseum as members of the American League West. The A's began the season on March 29 against the Los Angeles Angels and finished the season on September 30 against the Angels as well. Tim Timmons (umpire)
Timothy Forbes Timmons (born December 30, 1967) is an American retired Major League Baseball umpire. After debuting in the National League as a substitute in late 1999, Timmons was promoted to the MLB umpiring staff in 2002. He worked the World Series in 2018 and retired following the 2022 season. Early life Tim Timmons was born in Columbus, Ohio. He graduated from Our Lady of Peace Grade School in 1982 and went onto graduate from Bishop Watterson High School in 1986. Jeff Nelson (umpire)
Jeffrey Brian Nelson (born June 1, 1965) is an American former professional baseball umpire in Major League Baseball (MLB), who was named to the National League (NL) staff prior to the 1999 season, and worked in both major leagues from 2000 until his retirement after the 2023 regular season. A graduate of Bethel University in St. Paul, Minnesota, he wore uniform number 45. Nelson was a crew chief from 2014 to 2023. Jerry Layne
Jerry Blake Layne (born September 28, 1958) is an American former umpire in Major League Baseball who has worked in the National League between 1989 and 1999, and throughout both major leagues from 2000 to 2024. He wore uniform number 24 in the NL, but when MLB merged the AL and NL umpiring staffs in 2000, Layne was forced to switch to number 26, as AL umpire Al Clark, who also wore 24, had more seniority. When Clark was fired midway through the 2001 season by MLB, Layne reclaimed number 24 and has worn it ever since. With Joe West's retirement in 2022, Layne became MLB's most senior active umpire. Chadwick Jarrett Fairchild (born December 30, 1970) is an American umpire in Major League Baseball. Fieldin Henry Culbreth III (born March 16, 1963) is an American former umpire in Major League Baseball (MLB).
