Gangneung Oval
The Gangneung Oval ( Korean: 강릉 스피드 스케이팅 경기장) is a speed skating oval in South Korea, which was used for the speed skating competitions at the 2018 Winter Olympics. The building of the oval was started in September 2013. The venue consists of a double track 400 metre rink and has a capacity of 8000 seats. It has three floors above ground and two underground levels. The original plan was to build the venue at the Gangneung Science Park, but because there was limited space due to the number of local businesses taking the opportunity to relocate, the oval was built in the Gangneung Olympic Park, in the vicinity of the Gangneung Ice Arena and Gangneung Hockey Centre. Construction of the facility was started on 29 October 2014. Peter Michael (speed Skater)
Peter Michael (born 9 May 1989) is a New Zealand long track speed skater and multiple world champion inline speed skater. He is since December 2020 a member of the Dutch . Michael won a total of 12 (4 Junior, 8 Senior) titles at the world inline skating championships and two medals at The World Games; in 2013 (gold) and 2017 (bronze). He has also been competing in ice speed skating since 2016. In 2017, he won silver and bronze medals at the World Single Distance Championships in Gangneung, South Korea. Lee Sang-hwa
Lee Sang-hwa (Korean: 이상화, Hanja: 李相花, ; born 25 February 1989) is a South Korean retired speed skater who specialises in the sprint distances. She is a two-time Olympic champion in 500 metres (2010 and 2014) and the 2010 World Sprint champion. She is the current world record holder in women's 500 metres with the time of 36.36 seconds set in Salt Lake City on 16 November 2013, and also holds the South Korean record on 1000 metres. She has also won three World Championships medals in 500 metres, and has placed in the top three in World Cup events four times in this distance. Her first World Cup victory, however, came on the non-Olympic distance 100 metres. Nao Kodaira
Nao Kodaira ( ja, 小平 奈緒; born 26 May 1986) is a Japanese former long track speed skater who specialised in the sprint distances. She is the 2018 Olympic champion in the 500 m distance. Kodaira is the first Japanese woman to win an Olympic gold medal in speed skating. In 2009, she graduated from Shinshu University with a bachelor's degree in education. Career At the 2010 Winter Olympics she won a silver medal in the team pursuit event. She placed 5th in the 1000 and the 1500 m events and 12th in the 500 m one at the Olympics. Olivier Jean (born March 15, 1984) is a three time Olympian who represented Canada in both short and long track speed skating. Olivier Jean is a gold medalist from the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games in the men's 5000m relay. He is a canadian short track speed skater, racing internationally from 2002 to 2015 and switched to long track speed skating, competing internationally from 2015 to 2018. Olivier competed at his second Olympic Games in Sochi 2014 in short track speed skating, and for his third game appearance, switched to long track speed skating, competing in the mass start at the 2018 Pyeongchang Olympic Games. His appearance is well-known for his dreadlocks and for listening to reggae, which he says makes him skate faster. Alexis Contin (born 19 October 1986) is a French speed skater. He is ranked 63 on the Adelskalender and is coached by Jan van Veen. Contin made his international speedskating debut at the Speed Skating World Cup in December 2005. In January 2007 he competed at an international allround tournament for the first time, finishing 17th at the European Championships held at Collalbo. In January 2008, Dutch newspaper ''De Telegraaf'' reported that Contin quit skating, saying that he felt he could not bring himself to focus entirely on longtrack skating. However, Contin made a return to competitive skating in the 2008–09 season. Joey Mantia (born February 7, 1986) is an American speed skater and inline speed skater, an Olympic bronze medalist, 28-time world champion, and a world record holder. He also won two gold medals at the 2003 Pan American Games and a gold medal at the 2007 Pan American Games. He won the American Speed Skater of the Year award three times in a row, in 2005, 2006, and 2007, and the 2007 Elmer Ringeisen Sportsmanship Award. Sverre Lunde Pedersen (; born 17 July 1992) is a Norwegian speed skater. He is the son of former speed-skater Jarle Pedersen. Career He is a two-time World Junior Champion and represents the club Fana Idrettslag. In 2011 he was 6th in the European Championships in Collalbo and 14th in the World Championships in Calgary. Shane Dobbin (born 22 January 1980) is a New Zealand inline skater and speed skater.
