2017 U.S. Open Cup
The 2017 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup was the 104th edition of the U.S. Open Cup, oldest ongoing competition in American soccer. FC Dallas entered the competition as the 2016 U.S. Open Cup Final, defending champions, but were eliminated in the quarterfinals by Sporting Kansas City. First round matchups were announced April 12, and matches began May 9. The cash prize amounts were the same as those in the 2016 tournament, with the champion receiving $250,000 and the runner-up $60,000. The team from each lower division that advanced the furthest received $15,000. Qualification Qualification for the Open Cup began in September 2016 with lower league play-in ties. North American Soccer League (2011–2017)
The North American Soccer League (NASL) was a professional men's soccer league based in the United States. The league was named for, but had no connection to, the original North American Soccer League. The later NASL was founded in 2009, and began play in 2011 with eight teams. From 2013 through 2017, the NASL used a split-season schedule running from April to early November, with a four-week break in July.
