2017 Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council Election
The 2017 election to Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council was held on 4 May 2017 as part of 2017 Welsh local elections, wider local elections across Wales. The election was preceded by the 2012 Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council election, 2012 election. Four candidates (from the sixty four seats available) were elected unopposed. Labour maintained control of the authority. Ward results Nominations closed on 4 April 2017. The following results were announced following the elections. Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council
Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council (or simply Neath Port Talbot Council) is the local authority for the county borough of Neath Port Talbot, one of the 22 Principal areas of Wales, principal areas of Wales. The council was controlled by the Labour Party (UK), Labour Party from its creation in 1996 until 2022, when Plaid Cymru and a group of independent councillors agreed to share power. History The county borough and its council were created on 1 April 1996 under the Local Government (Wales) Act 1994. Margam
Margam is a suburb and community (Wales), community of Port Talbot in the Wales, Welsh county borough of Neath Port Talbot, Wales, close to junction 39 of the M4 motorway. The community had a population of 3,017 in 2011; the built up area being larger and extending into Taibach community. History Margam was an ancient Welsh community, formerly part of the cwmwd of Tir Iarll, initially dominated by Margam Abbey, a wealthy house of the Cistercians founded in 1147. Godre'r Graig
Godre'r Graig is a village and an electoral ward of Neath Port Talbot county borough, Wales. The village developed alongside the coal workings at the Tarenni Colliery, which closed in 1949. In 2008 the community came together at a public meeting held in the local primary school regarding the long neglected park. As a result, Godre'r Graig Community Association (GCA) was formed to provide a vehicle for the community to take charge of the park and bring it back into use. Glyncorrwg is a village in the Afan Valley, in southern Wales. Glyncorrwg is also the name of an electoral ward and formerly a community covering the village and surrounding countryside, in Neath Port Talbot county borough. Glyncorrwg is part of the community known as the Afan Valleys, which also contains the villages of Abergwynfi, Blaengwynfi, Croeserw, Cymmer, Abercregan, Duffryn and Glyncorwg itself. Dyffryn Clydach
Dyffryn Clydach is a community of Neath Port Talbot county borough, Wales, between Neath and Swansea. Description Dyffryn Clydach includes the residential communities of Cwrt Herbert, Dyffryn, Highlands, Longford, Neath Abbey, and Penshannel. Although covering only , the area is packed with history, including the ruins of Neath Abbey. The current Tesco store is believed to occupy the site of an 11th-century castle. Cymmer, Neath Port Talbot
Cymmer () is a small village in the community of Cymer and Glyncorrwg, in Neath Port Talbot in Wales, set on a hillside in the Afan Valley near the confluence of the River Afan and the River Corrwg. In 2001, Cymmer had a population of 2,883. Description Cymmer can also be spelled "Cymer", with "Cymmer" being the English-language version, and "Cymer" the Welsh language one. The word "Cymmer" translates from Welsh into English as "joining place of two rivers", and it is here that the Afon Corrwg and the Afon Afan meet, to flow onward as the River Afan until entering the sea at Aberavon/Port Talbot. The immediate area is set in a densely forested upland area with steep sided river valleys cut through by the Rivers Afan and Corrwg. Patches of open moorland exist to the north and south.
