2017 FIBA Melanesia Basketball Cup
The 2017 FIBA Melanesian Basketball Cup was an international basketball tournament contested by national teams of the newly formed Melanesia sub-zone of FIBA Oceania. The inaugural edition of the tournament were hosted by Papua New Guinea from 27 to 30 September 2017. Matches were played at the Taurama Aquatic and Indoor Centre. It was officially launched on 19 May 2017. The tournament served as qualifiers for the basketball event of the 2019 Pacific Games in Samoa with three berths for Melanesia allocated for the top three teams. The hosts dominated the entire tournament winning all of their games, including the championship game against to win the maiden championship. Both finalists and third placer qualified and represented the Melanesia Region for the basketball tournament of the 2019 Pacific Games. Basketball At The 2019 Pacific Games
Basketball is one of the 26 sports scheduled for the 2019 Pacific Games which will be held in Apia, Samoa. Competition format The 8 teams will be split into two pools of four where round-robin matches will be played with the top two from each pool advancing to the semi-finals or the medal play-offs. Qualification For the first time ever, teams would have to qualify for the event in order to participate in the basketball competition either for men or women through sub-zone qualification tournaments in Melanesia, Micronesia, and Polynesia. 2018 Micronesian Games
The 9th Micronesian Games were held from July 15 to July 27, 2018, in Yap, Federated States of Micronesia. Participating nations Ordinarily, there are 10 participants at the games. However, Nauru were unable to compete in this edition due to travel costs. As such, the participants at the games were: the four constituent states of the Federated States of Micronesia ( Chuuk, Kosrae, Pohnpei, Yap), three sovereign countries (Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Palau) and two insular areas of the United States (Northern Mariana Islands, Guam) all located within the Micronesia region. Sports Athletes competed in 13 different sports at the games: athletics, baseball, basketball, beach volleyball, the "Micronesian all-around", open water swimming, soccer, spearfishing, va'a, table tennis, volleyball, weightlifting, and wrestling. The 2018 FIBA Polynesian Basketball Cup was an international basketball tournament contested by national teams of the newly formed Polynesia sub-zone of FIBA Oceania. The inaugural edition of the tournament was hosted by Samoa from 19 to 24 November 2018. Matches were played at the NUS Gymnasium.
