2017 Emakumeen Euskal Bira
The 30th running of the Emakumeen Euskal Bira was held from 17 to 21 May 2017. Raced over five stages in the Basque Country, Spain, it had a total distance of 37 km. South African rider Ashleigh Moolman won the event after she won the final stage to Errenteria. Ashleigh Moolman Pasio (née Moolman; born 9 December 1985) is a South African professional female road bicycle racer, who currently rides for UCI Women's WorldTeam . She competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in the Women's road race, finishing 16th and in the Women's time trial finishing 24th. On 9 December 2020, she won the first edition of the UCI Cycling Esports World Championships, organised on the online cycling platform Zwift. Career She tried to start a career in triathlon but after discovering her talent in cycling, and a series of injuries, dedicated herself fully to professional road cycling. At the 2014 Commonwealth Games, she won the bronze medal in the women's road race and finished 15th in the women's individual time trial. Cecilie Uttrup Ludwig (born 23 August 1995) is a Danish professional road cyclist, who currently rides for UCI Women's WorldTeam . Career As a junior, she competed at the 2012 UCI Road World Championships and the 2013 UCI Road World Championships. In the 2018 La Course by Le Tour de France she finished in 4th place, with her teammate Ashleigh Moolman taking the final podium place. She also took the mountains classification in this race. After this race she gave her first of what would become several excitable interviews, with this one including advice for any cyclist who has bad legs to have their wisdom teeth removed. At the very end she said was so excited for chocolate and champagne and pizza and vacation. Over the next few years her results in France would only get better.
