2017 Commonwealth Youth Games
The 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games, officially known as the VI Commonwealth Youth Games, and commonly known as Bahamas 2017, or Nassau 2017, was the sixth edition of the Commonwealth Youth Games which started in 2000. The games were held from 19 to 23 July 2017 in Nassau, Bahamas. 64 nations participated at the games. The Bahamas 2017 was the largest international sporting event ever to be hosted in The Bahamas, and the largest-ever edition of the Youth Games, with up to 1300 athletes. During the opening ceremony the Prime Minister of the Bahamas Hubert Minnis declared the games officially open. It was the first the time that the tournament was opened by a prime minister instead of a monarch or a president. Nassau ( ) is the capital and largest city of The Bahamas. It is on the island of New Providence, which had a population of 246,329 in 2010, or just over 70% of the entire population of The Bahamas. Beach Soccer At The 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games
The beach soccer competition at the 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games was held in Nassau, Bahamas from 19 to 22 July 2017 at the National Beach Soccer Arena, at Malcolm Park. Two events took place, the boys' tournament and the girls' tournament. A total of eight teams from six countries took part; each consisting of ten players for a total of 80 competing athletes – 40 boys and 40 girls. All competitors were aged between 16 and 18. Each respective event began with a round robin group stage. The teams in 1st and 2nd place advanced to the gold medal match. The teams in 3rd and 4th advanced to the bronze medal match. The boys' event was won by Saint Lucia and the girls event was won by Trinidad and Tobago. Squash, sometimes called squash rackets, is a List of racket sports, racket ball game, sport played by two (singles) or four players (doubles) in a four-walled court with a small, hollow, rubber ball. Bowls, also known as lawn bowls or lawn bowling, is a sport in which players try to roll their ball (called a bowl) closest to a smaller ball (known as a "jack" or sometimes a "kitty"). Beach Volleyball
Beach volleyball is a team sport played by two teams of two to four players each on a sand court divided by a net. Similar to indoor volleyball, the objective of the game is to send the ball over the net and to ground it on the opponent's side of the court. Each team also works together to prevent the opposing team from grounding the ball on their side of the court. Teams are allowed up to three touches to return the ball across the net, and individual players may not touch the ball twice consecutively except after a touch off an attempted block. Beach soccer, also known as beach football, sand football or sand soccer, is a variant of association football played on a beach or some form of sand between two teams of five players each. The Rugby sevens competition at the 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games in Nassau, Bahamas was held in July 2017 at Queen Elizabeth Sporting Complex. A total of 10 nations competed in this tournament. There were 6 teams in the boys event and 6 teams in the girls event. Each team played the other once in the group stage.
